Tutor of Oboe, Piano, Music Theory - for great exam results or just for fun!

I have been teaching for many years now, privately and in independent schools, with pupils at many different levels, ages and circumstance. I run several of woodwind chamber groups, covering flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and saxophone, which gives me a well-rounded knowledge of all woodwind instruments.

I have taken my pupils through many exams; theory, piano and oboe, all showing fantastic results. But also I teach people 'just for fun!', so can adapt to whichever you need.

About Me

I am a recent graduate from BMus from the Royal Academy of Music, studying Oboe as my principal instrument. Former to this I studied at Chetham's School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music Junior Department in Manchester.

At the age of 5, I began to study the Recorder and Piano, both of which I received my grade 8. I enjoyed playing them so much I took up the oboe at the age of 13 and this is where my musical interest blossomed. Alongside this, I developed a love of singing and took part in many music festivals and various choirs. At a professional level, I freelance across London orchestras, mainly concentrating on Oboe and Cor Anglais.

Music has always been hugely influential and something I have felt a lot of passion for from a very young age. To even have a background in music is incredibly beneficial throughout life, and I find it thrilling how I can pass on my knowledge so that others can benefit this way.

Since I began learning the oboe I have fortunately received fantastic tuition from many world-renowned musicians. I think it is important for a teacher to inspire, be fully involved and motivate the student, to ensure they enjoy practice time and look forward to lessons...as much as they can!

I try to keep lessons lighthearted and fun with the idea of pushing the student at the same time. I hope that my former students agree!

From my previous tutors, I have luckily picked up many tricks and tips about teaching the 'correct' way and would love to carry on passing this knowledge to allow students to have a great time playing their instrument!

Early Classical Piano, All-level Jazz Piano and Music Theory Classes
Jazz piano is an excellent route for people who are looking for a less book-focused, more aural approach to learning an instrument. I can tutor beginners to the piano or classical-converts who are looking to experience jazz by condensing my education down into core principles. This method of learning helps you move away from the books and to start enjoying the piano with more confidence and skill. I teach with a strong emphasis on theory and aural listening and with my resources I can take you through basics to more advanced lessons. I'm also fully equipped to teach music theory classes and to tutor in GCSE and A-Level music (composition, particularly) as well as teaching early level classical piano (up to ABRSM Grade 6). Whether you're looking for chord skills on the piano or want to become an improviser, these are the lessons for you!

PIANO LESSONS: What about learning how to play the piano?
Piano, the instrument used by the romantics to make their most beautiful music, but also by the most experimental and modern composers to create their amazing music. Isn't it a great instrument to play? With more than 5 years of experience teaching in music schools and 8 years as a private piano teacher, I developed an efficient and "fun"-focusing way to teach how to play the instrument. Every student is different, so also the way to play and learn shall be different, which makes every single lesson special and rewarding. I also offer the possibility of teaching in groups: if you want to know more about this option. I hope I become the teacher you want and need!
