Logic Pro X is the most used DAW right now. It can be challenging for musicians or aspiring music producers to get the hang of it as usually the basics of audio mixing and production are not understood well, and so it gets in the way of songwriting ending up being frustrating! Whether you are using Logic Pro X, or any other DAW I can teach you the basics of recording vocals and other instruments, the essentials about understanding signal chains and how to use compressors equalisers as well as reverbs and delays, how to mix and master. I teach in my home studio in Battersea in Logic Pro X, but if you use any other DAW you are welcome to bring your own laptop so you can learn how to use your own equipment in the most efficient way! Alternatively I can teach via Zoom.

Students will have the opportunity to investigate technical and stylistic conventions across a range of contemporary western popular music genres and to study key elements such as chord progressions, structure, harmony and melody, to develop their confidence and own abilities in composition. These sessions will explore musical composition techniques used in popular and contemporary music. The focus will be on deconstructing different works, exploring what their musical elements are and investigating what commonality these have across the boundaries of genre or instrumentation. Students will have experience of composing original musical elements and arranging these elements into complete compositions.

Ableton Live and Logic Pro are two of the most widely used tools for creating music on a computer. I designed these courses to teach you the basics of DAW (Digital Audio Workstation): an overview of the necessary equipment, multitrack recording methods, the use of real and virtual instruments, creating rhythms and beats, adding sound effects, and final mixing. I also offer an introduction to synthesis (i.e., the use of synthesizers) for electronic music composition, as well as an introduction to an AKAI MPC. But first and foremost, how can you have fun while letting your creativity flow, whatever your style of music!
