Dear all,

My name is Matthieu and I just arrived in Amsterdam for a indefinite period of time. I used to live in many countries and in each of them, I decided to offer french classes in order to develop the knowledge of this awesome language. It has always been successful and I would love to help you increase your skills in French.

I give adapted lessons from complete beginners to advanced ones! According to the student's wishes the lessons can be focused on the preferred aspects (conversation, vocabulary, grammar, writing, formal writing, etc.).

About Me

I am originally from Bordeaux, but throughout my studies I had the opportunity to live in Lille and Paris but also to go abroad and experience the life in Bangkok, Thailand and Seoul, South Korea. Thanks to those two experiences, I developed a real taste into teaching french to people.
I arrived in Amsterdam with the same desire and I hope that we will have to opportunity to do it together.

Education

I am currently enrolled in a top French Business School and I am following an MSc specialised in Corporate Finance.
During my bachelor and master, I studied in both Thailand and South Korea.

Experience / Qualifications

While living abroad, I used to teach French to locals and expatriates. It was a truly interesting experience for both sides as I've been able to improve my teaching skills while spreading the knowledge of french language around.

My belief is that each student is different and requires a tailor made lesson to meet that student’s needs and goals. Every class is personalised for your own profile and is adapted as needed. I give priority to conversation, convinced that even from the very first day, one can start to communicate in the new language and thus gain confidence to go on.

I base my courses on the four essential competencies: speaking, listening, writing and reading, always focusing on your personal goals and motivation. I progressively integrate phonetics, grammar, conjugation, vocabulary in the courses which always include practical exercises. You will also learn a lot about the culture as it is deeply linked to the language.

The pedagogic materials I choose are mostly created for native speakers : texts from literature, newspapers, radio podcasts, videos, songs.... Indeed, I am convinced that the learning process has to tackle « real subjects », as languages are alive and constantly changing. My main challenge is to help the learners to be able to « think » in the second language. The debate is the heart of my classroom, but always in a playful way, through many role games — for me learning a language is first and foremost a great joy !

Who? I am a twenty-eight-year-old French and U.S. Anthropology student. I am trained in FLE (French as a Second Language) and have worked for the National French Education Ministry as a Middle School Teacher on the beautiful island of Mayotte. Following that exotic experience, I decided to change course and study Anthropology all the while teaching French as a Second Language on a freelance basis. I moved to the Netherlands just recently and have decided to continue practicing as a French tutor. I have also tutored English classes in France for five years.

What? I offer French or FLE (French as a Second Language) courses based on multiple sources and I regularly renew them because it is important to be in adequacy with today's society. As I just started learning Dutch, I teach in English all the while aiming for 90% French during the class.
