Hello! My name is Helen and I provide online English tuition. I am a native speaker with a neutral accent and I live in Scotland.

I can help you to speak English as native speakers do and introduce you to life in the UK. I am friendly, enthusiastic and easy to talk to. I have a qualification to teach English (CELTA).

I give lessons on Zoom and use Google Classroom to share homework and other material. I love chatting in English and finding out about my students’ interests. I plan high-quality lessons on interesting topics.

In the lessons, we focus on speaking, listening and grammar. For homework afterwards, I will give reading and writing tasks. I would be happy to adapt the classes to suit you.

I have a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) from the Centre of English Studies, Edinburgh. It is an intensive course which lasts for one month and provides valuable skills and experience in teaching English as a foreign language. I also have a BSc in Neuroscience from the University of Edinburgh.

I have a variety of experience in teaching roles. I previously worked part-time as a one-on-one Maths Tutor for high school students. I also volunteered as an English teacher in an orphanage in India.

I am happy to take requests from people of all levels, although I do have more experience with intermediate level students (B1/B2).

My methodology: Learning to structure one's thoughts to express oneself better
My approach is based on a simple observation: success is not achieved through lack of effort, but often through a lack of method and confidence. My role is to transform subjects sometimes perceived as abstract (Philosophy, French) or intimidating (English) into concrete tools for success.

The typical course of a session:
1. Quick diagnosis: We start by identifying the areas of uncertainty from the previous lesson or the difficulties with a specific exercise.
2. Taking action: No boring lectures! We work on concrete exercises, essay plans or oral practice (in English) to "learn by doing".
3. The "Montreal Method": Having worked for two and a half years in Quebec, I use a North American pedagogy that is very focused on encouragement, clear structure and student autonomy.
4. Summary & Objectives: We end each session with a recap of the key points so that the student knows exactly what to revise.
