If you think drawing is difficult or you've been trying for a while and aren't improving, the problem isn't your talent: Nobody has taught you how to make it easy, fun, and less frustrating. In my classes I welcome students of all levels, from beginners to advanced. I also teach in English. I use a method based on the student's goals and needs. It doesn't matter if it's just a hobby or if you want something more professional. The structure adapts perfectly to what you're looking for and can change throughout the course. My goal isn't just for you to learn, but for you to have fun while you improve. We'll learn using your favorite series, comics, and webtoons. No boring exercises, just drawing. We'll analyze the work of the artists you admire, and you'll learn the tricks that real professionals use. You will learn: Manga/Anime, Comics, Narrative, Illustration, Drawing, Digital and Traditional Art, Character and Environment Design, Anatomy, Landscapes. Shall we learn together?

Do you want to learn the basics of drawing? Or are you already past that level? Do you want to draw on paper (with pencils) or on a screen? Do you want to learn the basics of 2D animation? All for a very reasonable price? We can do it! Nice to meet you, I'm Daniel. I'm a (private) art teacher, I'm also a freelance artist and have been working as one for about 7 years. I'm looking for students in Utrecht, I have a teaching space available in my apartment (I can share my address when you contact me), but am also able to travel to your desired space within the city. I can also teach via webcam, but I do recommend my in-person classes, seeing as they're more immersive and educational. I unfortunately do not speak Dutch (yet), but am confident we can overcome any potential language barrier we come across. I have the most experience in teaching teenagers and preteens, so I think we would definitely be a good match if you're a parent or guardian looking for a teacher for your child. I have a bachelor's degree in digital arts, obtained at Saint Luc in 2016. During my studies I made live models, had courses in color, 2D animation, perspectives and character design. I mainly draw with a graphics tablet. During the lessons we will see how: - look at an image, understand how the artist composes it, then learn to reproduce a style. - use layers - use filters to give more life to images - learn different coloring methods, from grayscale coloring to colorization with filters - use different brushes - export illustrations in the correct formats - integrate photos into your drawings With this flexible method, I could teach you in a few lessons to discover or deepen your drawing style and improve your renderings.

ABOUT THE CLASS: Do you have a character in your head, a story you’ve been thinking about, or simply an urge to draw and wonder what might happen if you turned it into a comic? In this class, we’ll explore how to develop your ideas into sequential form. We’ll work on drawing skills, character development, composition, page layouts, pacing, and the relationship between images and text. We’ll also look at inspiring examples from comics, graphic novels, and art history. Depending on your interests, we might create a short comic, develop a character or story, or begin working towards a longer project. You don’t need to have a finished story, or even know exactly what you want to make. We can start small, experiment with ideas, and build towards a larger project. There are no specific requirements regarding materials. We can work with pencil and paper, ink, color, or digital tools. If you would like to work digitally, you will need to bring your own laptop and software; there are many excellent open-source and inexpensive options available. ABOUT ME: I am a lifelong comics lover, as well as an artist, architect, and published comic book author. My background in architecture helps me create convincing worlds, environments, and backgrounds, while my professional experience in animation has given me a good understanding of timing and pace.
