Hello, I'm Petra — a native English speaker and qualified primary teacher with over 30 years of classroom experience in British and international schools. I specialise in literacy development and English as an Additional Language (EAL), helping children build strong reading, writing, and communication skills with confidence.
I hold a PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) from Kingston University and a BA (Hons) in Humanities from the University of Greenwich, and I am authorised to teach in private schools in the Canton of Vaud. Since 2007, I have worked at Haut-Lac Bilingual School in St-Légier as an EAL teacher and school Literacy Coordinator, supporting multilingual students and children with special educational needs (SEN) alongside my earlier years teaching the full English National Curriculum at primary schools in the UK.
What I love most about teaching is that shift in confidence in every lesson. My approach is patient, structured, and warm: I create a calm, encouraging environment where children feel safe to try, make mistakes, and grow. Lessons are always tailored to the individual child, whether that means phonics and early reading, exam preparation, or targeted support for a child who is finding English challenging.
I am fluent in French (C1) and understand first-hand what it feels like to learn and teach across languages and cultures — a perspective I bring to every lesson with non-native English speakers and their families.
