Classical double bass lessons in Antwerp for all levels, from beginners to advanced students preparing conservatory entrance exams, auditions or orchestral repertoire.

My lessons are adapted to each student’s level, goals and musical personality. We can work on fundamental technique, sound production, posture, bow control, left-hand freedom, intonation, shifting, rhythm, musical phrasing and efficient practice methods.

For more advanced students, I offer focused work on orchestral excerpts, audition preparation, solo repertoire and chamber music. The aim is not only to solve technical problems, but to help you play with more ease, confidence, clarity and musical intention.

I believe in building a healthy and natural technique, avoiding unnecessary tension and connecting every technical detail to sound and expression. Lessons are clear, structured and supportive, with practical exercises that you can continue developing in your own practice.

Lessons can take place at my home studio in Antwerp, where a double bass is available, or I can travel within Antwerp when possible.

About Me

I am a professional double bassist based in Antwerp, currently working as co-principal double bass with Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.

I offer double bass lessons for students of different levels, from beginners to advanced players preparing auditions, exams or orchestral repertoire. My teaching focuses on sound production, posture, technique, intonation, musical phrasing and efficient practice.

I adapt each lesson to the student’s goals: classical technique, solo repertoire, orchestral excerpts, chamber music, audition preparation or general musical development. I try to create a calm, clear and encouraging atmosphere, while keeping high musical standards.

Specialising in jazz theory as well as double and electric bass technique, but mostly learning how to play! I enjoy working collaboratively with individuals as well as groups, focusing on listening skills, transcription, composition and communicating musical ideas through notation software Musescore.

I have extensive experience performing and teaching in Scotland and around the world. I graduated in 2012 from Edinburgh Napier University, working as a full-time session musician since.

I am Verena and I have a Master's degree In classical double bass (French Bow), as well as a background in studying Electric Bass.
I can teach the basics and the advanced skills of approaching these Instruments. The key for someone to love studying music is, I believe, the approach to playing in the first place. I consider myself a very kind and patient person with a passion for teaching and knowing new people.
I have always combined classical music with my passion for all stringed Instruments. Here is my passion for the guitar specifically for the acoustic guitar using folk/finger-picking techniques.
Due to the difficulty of having access in the first place to instruments like the double bass, I think it is essential to have the opportunity for a first lesson before deciding to invest In an instrument.
