I believe in a holistic music teaching style! This means I teach music by ear and using sheet music. Ideally, my students will learn to enjoy making music with their instrument and be able to hear the progress they are making each week. We will learn how to read music, music theory, and musical pieces at your level. I always teach in a student-focused way: what the student gets excited about is what I will teach! I teach classical music, jazz and various kinds of folk music. I have taught children for several years and I have experience teaching people of all ages. I really look forward to teaching you and working with you! :)

About Me
I am a classically trained violinist and violist from the US. I was trained with the Suzuki method and I am currently obtaining my Suzuki teacher training. I believe in holistically training students to play their instruments so that playing music can become like a second language. I will teach both ear training and with sheet music. I will also teach music theory, sight-reading, rhythm and various other skills that are necessary for musicians.

I will always focus on the student's needs and structure our lessons around what the student is most interested in. Not only do I play classical music but I have also been trained by some of the foremost folk and jazz violinists and musicians in the US and I will happily teach any genre from classical, to jazz to different kinds of folk music (Scottish, Irish, Old-time, bluegrass, etc.).

My students will walk away from our lessons feeling like they are making progress, feeling like they are learning a new way of looking at playing their instrument, and hopefully feeling excited and inspired :)
Education
I attended Oakland School for the Arts, a selective youth arts school. I graduated from Berkeley High School with a 3.9 GPA and having played in the jazz and orchestra programs there. I now attend university in Berlin.
Experience / Qualifications
I have played violin seriously since I was 5 years old. I have years of experience teaching kids and I have also taught adults of all ages and all levels from beginner to advanced. I have extensive performance experience with chamber groups, chamber and symphony orchestras, as well as jazz big bands, jazz combos, and different arrangements of folk and jazz trios and quartets. I have released 2 albums with my Americana band, Jubilee with whom I have gone on tours and performed at several festivals across the US. I have also worked in a jazz recording project placed in the top 3 original compositions at the Monterrey Jazz Festival. Additionally, I have recorded several tracks on an album produced by Grammy-award winning musician Laurie Lewis.

I won Best Soloist award at the Santa Cruz Jazz Festival and was placed in the California All-State Orchestra. In addition, I have had a master class with the Kronos Quartet, and performed on stage with Grammy-award winning and nominated musicians Sierra Hull, Darol Anger and Mike Marshall, and Väsen.

I'm a french professional violinist established in Berlin, I'm currently member of the academy of the Radio Orchestra in Berlin and graduated from the Universität der Künste Berlin, Hight school of Music Geneva and Lyon

I give violin lessons at home, for students of all levels and ages.
I constantly adapt my teaching according to the expectations and objectives of the student, so the technical work that allows to acquire a better ease with the instrument will always be directed towards a musical research and the pleasure of playing music
I can also give some basics of music theory, included in a violin class. These courses can be part of the schema of a regular apprenticeship or of one-off sessions (preparation of an exam, support in the personal work of a pupil of a musical institution ...)

I consider teaching to be an essential aspect of a musician's life, in order to pass on one's knowledge and passion with pleasure. This is very enriching for both the student and the teacher, and it has allowed me to reflect on myself and to learn from it about questions of instrumental technique

My love for this wonderful instrument and my extensive experience have made it possible to achieve many successes with my students, such as helping them pass auditions for music schools and music colleges, as well as receive very good results in competitions.

From personal experience, having changed my violin-playing technique several times, I put emphasis on the bow-hold, holding of the violin, and playing with the left hand. I strive for, as much as possible, a relaxed body during playing. My favorite part of teaching is discovering how to interpret individual musical pieces along with the students, so every feeling and every story is reflected in the sound. I am very thankful that I have had the opportunity to learn from so many excellent musicians who have always treated music as fantasy that has not limits.

Hello, my name is Oscar and I am a Violin and Piano teacher from the UK, now living in Bristol, after several years of living abroad.

I've been teaching and performing on both instruments for 5 years, during, and after my studies at the Royal Northern College of Music. I have taught children from the age of four, up to adults in their late sixties, and I find all spectrums of age and ability rewarding and engaging to work with. Regarding Violin tuition, I am happy to teach up to any level. On the piano, I, however, currently prefer to teach up to an ABRSM grade 8 level, and not far above it.
My musical endeavors, whilst focused predominantly on the Classical style in my early childhood, have become quite varied and I am a great lover of many different styles. I play regularly in Klezmer bands, Celtic Folk groups and I run a Gypsy Jazz Collective, besides performing with Orchestra's, Small string ensembles, and as a Solo Violinist.
Whilst I wouldn't consider myself to be an expert, I thoroughly enjoy guiding people through the early stages of learning to improvise, and I am equally comfortable working with students in this way as I am teaching in a more traditional, classically-orientated manner.

I look forward to hearing from you!
