A patient and knowledgeable native tutor with a Linguistics degree offering Japanese lessons!
From 32.15 £ /h
I'm based in Blackrock. My lessons are face-to-face at a cafe in Blackrock or at my student's home (when it's not too far from Blackrock/Stillorgan) as I'm learning to drive and have young kids. Online lessons are available if students wish to practice speaking rather than learning grammar or working on a textbook. I can also teach Shodo(Japanese Calligraphy), Origami, and how to make karaage, teriyaki dishes and matcha desserts.
My availability changes every week except a 7-8pm slot (I'm available from 7-8pm every week except Monday) due to my husband's work schedule.
I have 3-4 days every week where I'm available from 2pm onwards. (Some week I'm available from Fri to Mon, other week I'm available from Tue to Thurs). I'm also available from 10:00-12:00 on weekdays.
I teach all ages and all levels (including Leaving Cert students).
I have 5 years one-on-one teaching experience (in Japan, Australia and Ireland) with adults, teens and kids.
I come from a Linguistic background (I have a degree in English Linguistics), which not many tutors actually do, but having the knowledge is extremely important when it comes to learning a language because the difficulties you face are often due to what your native language is and the difference between your native language and the language you are learning.
Before I started university, I wasn't confident in my English skills though I was always getting good grades at school. Being immersed into Linguistics taught me the whole new perspectives.
I offer advice and recommendations, but I usually let my students pick textbooks as every student has different preferences and goals.
Lessons can be tailored to meet individual requirements/requests.
I also offer my students translation/interpreting/proofreading services too should they need them.

Extra information
Hello, my name is Marin. (Marin isn't a common Japanese name, but I'm Japanese born and raised in Japan :D)
I have been living in Ireland since 2018.
I have a degree in English Linguistics, in addition to being a translator/interpreter/proofreader.
I have hands on experience in learning another language (English) and have academic knowledge (Linguistics) so I'm passionate about what I do!
My hometown is Kochi (born and raised there), which is on Shikoku island. It's quite far from any major well-known cities like Tokyo, but I'd say it's a hidden gem. If you'd like to visit Shikoku (especially Kochi and Ehime), feel free to ask as I have loads of information :D
Fun fact about me: I did calligraphy (shodo) when I was growing up and have the level 7 cert. I went to Ehime University and worked in Nagoya & Hiroshima.
I like watching figure skating games (I'm the same age as the retired very popular skater Mao Asada). I have studied/worked in many English speaking countries including Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand and of course, Ireland.
I look forward to having lessons with you!

It's very hard to find authentic Japanese food in Dublin. But did you know it's easy to make it once you have the ingredients required? Teriyaki sauce is so easy to make, yet the packet premade ones you can find in supermarkets never tastes authentic! Karaage, the Japanese deep fried chicken is the dish that no Japanese restaurant in Dublin can make authentically. Lastly, if you are a matcha lover, you might want to know how to make Japanese desserts!
If you are interested in the Japanese Calligraphy "Shodo" in Dublin, look no further!
I had learnt Shodo for 5 years and have a "7 Dan level".
Shodo is very therapeutic like mindfulness and knowing the strokes of kanji will help you not only write them neatly and beautifully, but also be able to remember them well!
