About Me

Xiaoshuang is a scientist with multi-cultural background. He grew up in China, studied and worked in Germany and Switzerland for 8 years. Mandarin (Chinese) is his native language, and he can speak English very fluent and also basic German. You can imagine him as a person with the following characters:
1. He is open for discussing various topics from daily life, to science, to culture, to business.
2. He always feels ready to help people who have great interest in Chinese language and culture.
3. His philosophy of teaching is to motivate people to learn Mandarin.
4. He is very good at guiding kids to develop interest in learning Mandarin.

2015-2020, ETH Zurich, Material science, 3d printing. The lectures and working language was in English. Many scientific work were published in the well-known journals.

I run private lessons, where all levels are welcome. But if you’re a total beginner then I offer basic classes to help you find the way to get into it.

I develop diverse methods of teaching for the students. For the around 5-8 years old kids, I would like to set certain games to play with them, thereby the kids can learn the new language during the interaction and communication. In this way, different media, like color pictures, puppets, or storybooks are essential to make the course very attractive. For the teenager or advanced students, a structuralized teaching content based on scenarios or textbook could help the students to develop their language capacity efficiently in different aspects – listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Besides, I would like to give a deeper perspective for the Chinese- not only learning the language from the textbooks, but also the knowledge of the language, the culture, and the literature.
