This class is designed for players who already know the rules of chess and are ready to sharpen their skills with deeper strategy and technique. With guidance from a coach rated 1800+ FIDE and experienced in international competition, students will analyze classic games, solve tactical puzzles, and learn how to create winning plans on the board. We’ll go beyond the basics to explore powerful middlegame tactics, advanced endgame play, and strategic planning—the tools that separate casual players from confident competitors.

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

Recognize common tactical patterns such as forks, pins, and discovered attacks.

Apply key opening principles and build a reliable opening repertoire.

Transition effectively from the opening to the middlegame.

Develop long-term strategies, including piece coordination and pawn structures.

Master fundamental endgames and know when to simplify or complicate a position.

About Me

I am a passionate chess tutor with a lifetime of playing and coaching experience, dedicated to helping students of all ages and levels improve their skills and enjoy the game.
My teaching style focuses on clear explanations, practical exercises, and game analysis. We will cover openings, middlegame planning, tactics, and endgames, while also developing critical thinking, patience, and confidence. I aim to make lessons engaging and enjoyable, so students not only improve but also develop a lasting love for chess.

I offer both in-person and online lessons, adapting to your pace and preferred learning style. My goal is simple: to help you unlock your potential on the board and think like a true chess player.

With a patient and student led focus, I aim to inspire you to be passionate about chess and understand the underlying principles behind why top players make the moves they make. With quite a positional and methodical approach to the game I teach in a principled way. Often called ‘Russian school boy’ the style I try to emulate is that of Karpov, who frustrates his opponents with unending rigour, like a boa constrictor squeezing his opponent’s position.
