The online lessons are every day, Monday to Saturday 17: 00-19: 00 (Greece time UTC +3). You can participate in any lesson you want (every day, once a week, etc). The precondition for participation is to have a smartphone connected to a wifi network. How it works: Before the beginning of the lesson, you must have sent me your intention to participate or the photo of the icon you are working on. I will call you via the Internet, only with sound, not with video. I will give you instructions and I will make corrections on the photo of the icon that you sent me. You will see the correction process live on your screen and after our conversation, I will send you the correction you saw on your screen to apply it to your icon. If you want to ask something during the lesson, you can send me a text message via the internet or a new photo of your icon in the new status, so I will be able to help you continue, to answer your questions and to correct live as I said before.No previous experience is needed to participate in the course. The lesson is private in a group.

It is necessary to have brushes, pigments or acrylics a surface to paint and a book I have written that it costs 10 euros.

About Me

Babis was born in Zakynthos in 1966. He studied Physics at the University of Patras. He is a painter and a holy icon painter. He paints portable icons and mural paintings in churches, he creates outdoor painting installations and he also illustrates books. He is an instructor of Byzantine painting in Athens, in Paris and via online courses. He usually exhibits his artwork (paintings) every two years in the centre of Athens in his atelier, in Paris (Gallerie Rivoly, Gallerie Desmos and Melkart Gallery) and in the summer, on the island of Zakynthos, his home-island, he prefers single evening exhibitions in unpopular outdoor places of historical or natural interest.

He studied Physics at the University of Patras in the years 1984-89, painting from 1996 to 1998 at the art School “Zografeio Iconon”(Headmaster Demetris Hatziapostolou) and seminar in fresco technique at Athens University (Headmaster George Kordis, adviser Mihai Coman-2007). Studded byzantine painting with father Stamatis Skliris and studded sketching at "art school Labrinos Marinis"

Experience / Qualifications

Teaching byzantine icon painting from 2011, in his atelier. His professional activity is painting of (holy) icons and churches (St.Stefanos in Athens Metamorfosi,church of Arhageli and St.Nickolas at Janina), landscape paintings, illustration of folktales books. He teaches Byzantine iconography in the form of seminars and courses in Athens, Zakynthos and Paris. He also teaches in the Austrian Summer Academy Sommerakademie Griechenland (SOAK). He is a member of the “Greek Chamber of Fine Arts” and the Greek-French group of artists “Naute”.

I am a visual artist born in Barcelona, settled in Belgium since 2017. As an artist I have accumulated experience for the last 25 years. I am graduated with an Academic Bachelor in Fine Arts in the University of Barcelona and graduated as a Master in Visual Arts at Sint Lucas School of Arts in Antwerpen.

I am specialised in painting, drawing, experimental films, installations, language, sound and curating. In other words, I am a multidisciplinary artist.

I understand the artistic practice as a way to understand ourselves and the situations which surrounds us. In my classes I don't teach how to do Art, but as how to say something through your artistic work. With me you can work independently, with a coach who will challenge you with some assignments and giving feedback to your personal concerns.

In addition, you will learn how to work with several mediums, preparing your own material: paintings, canvases, and so on.

I am an artist and philosopher from Amsterdam currently living in Antwerp. I studied in London where I acquired a BA from Art Academy London and a BA in philosophy from St Mary's University London.

Artistic development starts by identifying your artistic interest. As artists, we don’t always know why we draw and paint the things that we do. Yet they are not random. What captivates us or draws us towards certain artworks? This might be the tonal way in which light reflects, structural forms or mathematical division. The point being, is that we all have such aesthetic interests and step 1 is finding out what interests you!

Step 2 is helping you express your interests through painting techniques, styles and materiality. But it all starts with you. What do you want to say? And how? I will help you do this through discussion, looking at your previous work (if you have any), introducing you to a LARGE variety of artists, potentially copying their styles. I adjust my classes according to your needs.

The goal is simple: to come to understand your artistic interest, help you find techniques to express them and develop your artistic language.

(Please note that just because you have found an artistic interest and a way to express it, it does not mean that you must do only one thing for the rest of your life. It is the downfall of creativity to repeat and paint the same way over and over again. Instead, allow your interests to drive your creativity. Let it be the starting point, venture out and discover it from various angles and ways of expressing it. But also be mindful that as we grow our interests can change and as they change, we must remain honest and respond accordingly such that our artistic language can also grow.)
