Essential Navigation in Sea and River for Beginners

If you are using a boat, you will need to know how to find out your position and orientate yourself. Navigation is important when sailing because it makes you understand how to get to your destination. Essential navigation gives you the opportunity to learn the basics of navigation, chartwork and sea orientation.

Through this course, you will learn: basic navigation, seamanship and ropework. At the end of this course, you will be able to succeed, pass the test, and get certified in Essential Navigation by the RYA (Royal Yachting Association).

About Me

I am David, from London, UK. I have served 25 years in the Royal Navy achieving the highest rank of Chief Petty Officer. Now I am retired and I will like to share my knowledge and experience with others that have a passion for sea and freshwater.

Education

Bachelor in Marine Biology at "Canterbury University"; Royal Navy Training School at HMNB (Her Majesty's Naval Base) Portsmouth; "Catford Boys" secondary school.

Experience / Qualifications

Work experience: 25 years of service as the Royal Navy Chief Petty Officer. Qualifications: RYA Powerboat, RYA First Aid, Coastal Yacht-Master, Safety Boat.

With the Small Boat License I certificate you qualify for sailing on European inland waterways with small ships that can sail faster than 20 km per hour or that are longer than 15 meters. During the Small Boat License I course, I will teach you the most important topics for successfully completing the official Small Boat License I. (in Belgium Steering License) certificate in about 10 hours.
