About Me

Hello, Everyone! My name is Eftychia (Effie), which means “Happiness” in Greek and I offer happiness to the people who would love to learn Greek. My goal is to keep the Greek language alive and thriving for another five thousand years! I am a teacher in Greece with a Master's Degree in Education. I have lived in New York but am currently on a Greek island. In New York, I worked in Greek-bilingual schools while studying at Hunter College (CUNY). I used to work in the public school system in Greece but now I have the pleasure of being the Head of Studies at the Greek-American Non-Profit Organization that promotes Greek culture and education. I am also currently working on my PhD in Digital Media and Communication at the Ionian University of Greece. Most of my students are Greek-American and bilingual. My life’s goal is to influence my students to learn Greek not by heart, but from the heart! Are you ready for a great journey into the depths of the Greek language and culture? I have 13 years of teaching experience in New York and in Greece, teaching Greek as a first and as a second language. I can teach Greek (A1-C2 level) depending on my students' needs. Of course, every student is different so I make sure to provide a customized program for everyone wanting to learn Greek, specified to your needs, while moving at your pace. My methodology is based on Constructivism which is the notion that people actively construct their own knowledge, and that reality is determined by your experiences as a learner. The major concept is that my students use their previously learned knowledge as a foundation and build on it with new things that they learn. My subject expertise is: modern Greek and Greek history, not just the basic history that is written in handbooks, but from the “inside” history.

Latin and Greek are beautiful but difficult languages to learn. Many students lose heart and motivation after a few bad grades. Together, we will look at where your stumbling blocks lie, and from there, I will help you move forward. I align as much as possible with your schoolwork. I also provide you with tools and strategies to learn (vocabulary) and translate better. This way, you strengthen the foundation, your results improve, and you go to class with more enjoyment and self-confidence again.
I also provide Latin and Greek exam training, including interim training for school exams.

Hi! I’m a native Greek speaker and I’d love to help you learn or improve your Greek.

Whether you’re a complete beginner, already know some Greek, or simply want to get more comfortable speaking, we can adapt the lessons to what you actually need.

I like keeping things easy-going and practical, rather than making every lesson feel like a traditional classroom. We focus on conversation, everyday Greek, understanding Greek culture and expressions, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, or anything else you’d like to learn or improve.

Most importantly, there’s no pressure - the Greek style! I focus on progress, I want you to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and simply enjoying the process of learning Greek.

Looking forward to meeting you and helping you discover Greek! 😊
