I believe Hebrew is more than just a language.

We start by building a solid foundation for the language, starting with the alphabet. My learning system, "Hebrew to Hebrew", familiarizes you with the basics of Hebrew.

During each lesson, you will be seated comfortably and you will progress from home in the language. At the end of the course, you can write simple words and read short dialogues. Thus, you will have learned 400 new words, basic syntax as well as verbs. We work on listening through exercises and discussions in the form of short dialogues.

Do you want to read the original Hebrew Bible, Torah, Psalms of King David, authentic, ancient prayer book, Chanuka, Passover, New Year/Rosh Hashana, etc. This class is taught in University-level English.
New York City living in Vienna. I have taught the CRASH COURSE in Hebrew Reading to groups in the United States and teach now privately, one-on-one!
Many have successfully learned to read Hebrew with me. I am personable, flexible, reliable, and knowledgeable.
'class taught in English with some basic German as needed.
I look forward to helping you on your journey to read and understand Biblical Hebrew, the foundation of Modern, conversational Hebrew spoken in Israel and around the world!

Learn Hebrew from scratch or improve your Hebrew. Whether you want to work on speaking, reading, writing or listening comprehension, I can help you.

Sometimes what we learn in official classes doesn't match reality, and I believe that learning from native speakers is the best way to assimilate ourselves in a new language.
My classes would include day-to-day common phrases and would focus on the correct yet simple way to express yourselves in Hebrew, and at the same time I always explain the proper Hebrew version of things. I think it ́s important to know both :)

If you're starting from scratch then we will go over the Alef-Beit, get familiar with the sound of the words and slowly build up a conversational vocabulary and reading and writing abilities, all depends on your interests.

Already know the basics of Hebrew?
Awesome! let's go deeper and learn the grammar so that we can read and understand news, or practice our conversation skills by talking about out interests and hobbies.

I am a German, Italian, Biblical Hebrew and Aramaic teacher with a wide international experience. I worked in Italy, Germany, Austria, and since 2018 I have lived and worked in the UK (Edinburgh).
I offer classes both for *individuals* (one-to-one tuition) and for *groups*.
It does not really matter whether you are a complete beginner or have studied the language before, my classes will be the perfect fit! As each person learns in her/his own way, I provide tailored lesson plans to meet your individual needs. I work at your own pace, targeting your desires and problem areas. You will get homework only if you want to.

The first lesson normally is a quick assessment of your existing knowledge. Through chatting and showing you a couple of pictures/games, I can easily infer which level you are at. This process is very useful (and, believe me, it does not hurt! So, do not panic!) because it allows me to draft a learning plan, setting some *milestones* you can/will achieve (which will be reviewed regularly). They encourage and motivate you, and work as a stimulus to do your best in a very effective and productive way. You will be getting constructive feedback from me and we will be working towards your goals together.

Let’s start your Hebrew journey today!

Tired of school methods that don't really get you talking? Or of inaccurate translations of sacred texts?

Shalom, my name is Yaacov. Originally from the former Yishuv of Jerusalem, Hebrew (modern and biblical) is my native language. Trilingual and passionate, I offer customized courses, free of unnecessary jargon.

Choose your path (or combine both):
• Modern Hebrew Course (Daily Life & Aliyah): Forget pure theory. The focus is on oral expression, confidence, local slang, and practical vocabulary for surviving and communicating in Israel.
• Biblical Hebrew, Torah & Mysticism (Kabbalah) Course: Ideal for those passionate about history or spirituality. Learn the root system, decode the profound meaning of traditional texts, and read the Torah or Kabbalah in the original language. (Introduction to Yiddish possible).
• Yiddish Path: Connect with the authentic language of our ancestors, whether for everyday conversation, culture, or the study of specific texts.
I adapt to your pace, whether you need to learn the alphabet (Aleph-Bet) from scratch or perfect your fluency.

I'm an author with a background in comparative literature and philosophy, and have years of experience in teaching Hebrew — including students with learning differences, which I take seriously and adapt my teaching to.
No language is just a language — and Hebrew is no different. It's a cultural, political, and social space, and I teach it as one.
We'll start with the essentials: reading, basic vocabulary, and building a foundation you can actually use. As soon as you're ready, we'll bring in real Hebrew — news articles from Haaretz (I'll bring the subscription), literature in a genre of your choosing, or music, whatever pulls you in. The more confident you get, the more we'll use that material to talk, argue, and think in Hebrew.
This is for learners who want more than vocabulary lists — who want Hebrew as a way into a culture, not just a skill on a CV.

Please note, this is biblical Hebrew (the language of most of the books of the Old Testament), not modern Hebrew (the living language)!

I hold a DEA (Master's degree) in "Languages, History and Civilizations of the Ancient Worlds" with a distinction of VERY GOOD, and I continued my training with the summer courses of the University of Aix-Marseille (Hebrew I, II and III).

I propose an introduction using J. Weingreen's manual, revised by J. Margain (CNRS), which allows progress through a series of short lessons followed by translation and composition exercises. This is a scientific approach to learning biblical Hebrew, as taught at the university level, which provides access to the Masoretic text.
=> Entering Hebrew into a computer document using a Hebrew keyboard and handwriting
=> Someone who works at a good pace can hope to tackle the easier biblical books after about a year.
