About Me

Having graduated from the CNSM in Lyon, I started playing the flute at the age of 8 in a small Parisian conservatory.

Today, I have been the principal flute of the Mulhouse National Orchestra for almost 20 years.

Alongside my career as an orchestral soloist, I have always given private lessons.

I guide students in their musical learning through various repertoires. Classical music, of course, but also more contemporary pieces. I listen to each student's preferences.

The main thing in my classes is to have fun while maintaining a certain rigor in the work in order to progress.

My name is Matteo and I am an Italian flutist and musicologist, based in Brussels since 2010. I graduated in modern flute at 'B. Marcello' Conservatory in Venice and at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels with Barthold Kuijken and Frank Theuns in the Baroque flute. I hold a master degree in Philosophy and Musicology as well.

I hold a PhD degree in music performance at Cardiff University, School of Music.

From 2013 till 2015, I have been teaching at the Venice Conservatory "B. Marcello", giving yearly lectures and seminaries on the historical repertoire for the flute. Since 2021, I have been appointed music curator of Coudenberg Sound Box Fest, a music festival which aims at celebrating the Belgian music heritage and takes place every year at the beautiful archeological site of the former Royal Palace of Brussels.

I recorded for Warner Classics & Erato, and a soloist for Arcana/Outhere Music ('La solitude à deux. Solos and duets by G. P. Telemann' in 2018 and 'Affect is no Crime. New music for old instruments' in 2019).

This class is for students of any age who wish to learn the transverse flute.

Learning an instrument takes time and commitment, but it's hugely rewarding - and it doesn't have to be boring! I have experience teaching students of all age and levels and I specialise in tailoring my teaching to meet the individual needs of each student.

Beginner flute lessons are suitable for students learning from scratch or those already playing up to about ABRSM Grade 2 level. In beginner flute lessons, you will learn the fundamentals of making a sound and play your first notes, as well as the basics of reading music. As lessons progress, you will learn your first short pieces and maybe even prepare for graded exams.

Intermediate lessons are suitable for students already playing at about ABRSM Grade 3 to Grade 5 levels. In these lessons, you will build on what you already know to expand your abilities on the flute. Advanced lessons are for students already playing at about ABRSM Grade 6 and beyond.
