With over 20 years of experience as a performer and educator, I specialise in teaching the violin and viola to adults and secondary school students from beginners to advanced. Of course, children are welcome to have lessons with me, too! :)
My goal is to help each student improve their technical abilities and musical awareness and make the best possible progress.
My main strength as a teacher is my ability to adapt my teaching methods and strategy to the specific needs and goals of each learner.
I am experienced in preparing students for ABRSM and Trinity graded exams, as well as for school scholarship and orchestral auditions.

Extra information

You need to have your own instrument and a device that supports Zoom video connection and (preferably) is able to turn on the original sound to ensure the best possible sound quality.

I'm an established, qualified, and experienced violin teacher who has worked in London for the last 26 years. I'm now back in Belgium for some new musical adventures, as well as to meet new students.

I welcome students from the age of four to adults. I have a real passion for transmitting my love of music, and I like to have a creative, playful and holistic approach to teaching. I also play the piano and often use it for aural training or to accompany my students (or do violin duets). I do believe that music is not just for competitions or exams but a skill for life that can bring tremendous joy, discoveries, friends and fun along the way. Learning an instrument is also a great way to foster different qualities such as patience, diligence, presence, resilience, deep listening and the ability to express and share our emotions with others.

Having explored many different violin methods and styles, I take a different approach according to each student. I like to teach a solid classical technique with some scales, studies and pieces, but there are many different ways to make music enjoyable or find other paths depending on the student's goal.

Although I was trained classically in Belgian Conservatoires and the Guildhall School of Music, I do like to teach a variety of music that is not just classical (Celtic, world, klezmer, jazz, tango, film music, pop...).
I often encourage my students to compose or improvise freely. In the last two decades, I have led many youth orchestras and violin workshops and worked for many different primary and secondary schools in England.

You can learn Violin technique with left and right hands. Lessons are created for every levels, beginner, intermediate and advanced and you can study classical repertoire, but also pop music and soundtracks and you can learn improvisation too.

I teach also piano for beginners and I can take you to play it for about three years.

You can also learn Solfeggio and Music Theory, as a helpful insert to practicing instrument.

I've been teaching music for eight years, so I know how to create an interested lesson and a specific course for you, observing your skills and motivation. You'll improve lesson by lesson, step by step, and you'll see good results.

I offer violin lessons for all ages and levels, in English or in French.

I believe in the importance of flexibility, that my job as a teacher is not to be stuck in my ways or methods but to be open to what you as an individual are seeking. I'd happy to find out what that is.

You could be a complete beginner who fell in love with the violin, or a good intermediate player who wishes to come back to the violin, or someone needing some help to prepare for an audition, or maybe you only want to play a specific type of music... In all cases, we could make it work.

I am also convinced that the relationship one has with the violin should be built out of physical ease and love for music. We often hear that the violin is a very difficult instrument, and although that is true to some extent, it doesn't need to be. I truly believe in the importance of physical exploration with the instrument to find what works best for you.

Finally, my specialization in early music (baroque and classical periods) gives me a unique approach on the classical repertoire, the evolution of musical style, and different technical insights. This background allowed me to dwell deeper in certain subtleties such as ornamentation, articulation, just intonation and sound production (I personally play on gut strings).

I also offer music theory lessons.

If you are more advanced and interested specifically in baroque violin lessons, that is of course also possible.
