Portfolio Review — See Your Work Through a Professional Eye
course price icon
From 63 £ /h
arrow icon
Your portfolio is the first thing a client, school, or curator sees — and you rarely get a second chance to make that impression count.

In this session, we’ll go beyond technical feedback. We’ll look at your work the way an art director, admissions committee, or potential client would: sequence, narrative, consistency of vision, and whether your strongest images are actually doing the work you think they are.

I bring ten years of professional experience across editorial, portraiture, documentary, and fashion photography, with credits in publications like DJ Mag and academic training at EFTI and TAI (Madrid). I’ve built and rebuilt my own portfolio through every stage of a photography career — so I know what separates a collection of good images from a body of work that opens doors.
This session is for you if:
• You’re applying to a photography school or master’s program
• You’re transitioning to freelance and need a portfolio that attracts clients
• You’re developing a personal project or photobook and want an honest outside eye
• You feel your work is stronger than your portfolio suggests
What you get:
• A structured, honest critique — no empty praise
• Concrete recommendations on editing, sequencing, and presentation
• Guidance on what to cut, what to develop further, and what’s ready to show

Sessions available online or in person in Madrid, in English or Spanish.

About Me
I’m Víctor, a Venezuelan-born photographer based in Madrid with over ten years of professional experience across portraiture, editorial, documentary, fashion, and underground photography. My work has been published in DJ Mag, and in 2026 I held my first solo exhibition in Madrid, presenting three bodies of work developed over several years.

My formal training is extensive: I hold an Advanced Diploma and a Master’s degree in Fashion Photography from TAI and EFTI — two of Madrid’s most respected photography schools — both completed on full scholarship. I also studied at Nebrija University. Beyond the academic side, I’ve worked as a production assistant, retoucher, and photographer across commercial and editorial contexts, which means my teaching draws from real industry experience, not just theory.

I shoot both digital and analog — 35mm and medium format, self-developed and digitized — and work professionally in Capture One and Photoshop. I’m equally comfortable in the studio and on the street.

How I Teach:
I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all instruction. Before anything else, I want to understand where you are, what you’re trying to say with your photography, and what’s getting in the way. From there, we build.

For beginners, I focus on building genuine understanding — not just memorizing settings, but developing the eye and the instinct that make technical knowledge useful. For more advanced students, I work as a thinking partner: questioning choices, challenging assumptions, and helping you find the logic inside your own vision.

My approach is honest and direct. I won’t tell you an image works if it doesn’t — but I’ll always explain why, and where to go from there. I believe the most useful feedback is specific, constructive, and respectful of
where you want to take your work.

Sessions can be structured around a curriculum or entirely led by your current needs and projects. Both online and in-person in Madrid, in English or Spanish.

Areas of Expertise:
Studio lighting · Editorial production · Photojournalism · Retouching (Photoshop, Lightroom, Capture One) · Analog photography (35mm, medium format) · Darkroom printing & photographic papers · Alternative processes (tintype, cyanotype) · Color theory · Composition · History of photography · Portfolio development · Photobook editing

it's a long time since I am working as a photographer, a bit more than 20 years and I really love my profession.
Photography is both a work and a passion.
I am doing fashion photography, portraits and still lifes. I enjoy the studio work.

We could go through the very basics of photography, see how a digital or film camera works, the aperture, time, ISO speed subjects.
On an online class we could also do some more creative things like PORTRAIT techniques, or if you have FLASH lights and want to learn more we could go through it. We could also try Light Painting, with a long exposure using a torch light held by hands .

If you're already taking pictures, I'd be happy to see your work. In the last times I am personally trying to make my portfolios a bit different than my habits. I'd be happy to share ideas and see what you are doing.

Hi! My name is Sidney. I'm a professional photographer and Visual Communication graduate with a passion for capturing authentic moments. During my studies, I graduated with 20 distinctions, building a strong foundation in photography, visual storytelling, composition, lighting, and professional photo editing.
Through both my academic training and real-world experience, I've learned that great photography is about more than understanding camera settings, it's about knowing how to tell a story, work with light, and capture genuine moments.

I'm passionate about sharing that knowledge with others in a way that feels approachable and encouraging. Whether you've just picked up your first camera or you're looking to refine your skills, I'll help you build confidence through practical guidance, personalised feedback, and hands-on learning.

Whether online or in person, the training will begin with an overview of the history of photography, followed by theoretical lessons on composition. To understand how a camera works and the depth of an image, you must observe and practice again and again. As a photographer, your aesthetic sense will develop through both practical and theoretical exercises.

I have all the necessary equipment, in case you don't have your own camera.

As an artist promoted by institutions such as Paris Photo and Alfred la Tour, I will accompany you throughout your creative process to help you refine your aesthetic sensibility and best meet your expectations as well as those of your future clients.

I also offer training on all of the following software:
• Photoshop: image correction, retouching, editing and processing
• Illustrator: proficiency in the software and typography
• InDesign: layout design, microtypography, graphic coordination and integration between different software programs; history of the publishing and printing industry
• Premiere Pro: video editing, tips and pitfalls to avoid, how to create a harmonious and effective edit, and mastering the software.

I adapt easily to schedules and needs. Naturally organized and independent, I am proficient in the digital tools used in education and I create my own teaching materials while guaranteeing high-quality work.

I advocate a creative and relaxed approach. No silly questions: mistakes are the foundation of your learning. Without them, you won't be able to progress.
