About Me

Heir to a tradition

Originally from Barranquilla in northeastern Colombia, Tato plays a repertoire where the cumbia meets the puya, the porro or the garabato with his touch, his percussionist striking blows in native flutes. singer and composer also, works a lot on the different influences that have hemmed this Atlantic coast that saw him born. His music is at the crossroads of the Caribbean, Indian, European and African worlds.

He worked alongside Totó la Momposina and Paulino Salgado "Batata" his drum master. At the moment he directs his group "Vía 40" and also "Los Hijos de Mamá Cumbé", one of his most recent creations, a project that brings together the voices of the great legends of Colombian traditional music such as Petrona Martinez, Juancho Fernandez, Lidia Montero and CarmeloTorres around the younger generation of musicians that like him carry this tradition beyond the Colombian borders.
