Do you want to learn how to sing within the realm of a healing modality? My singing teaching is based in trauma informed musicianship. Through my teaching of people of all ages and experiences, and my own singing and recovery journey, I realised that musicianship and trauma recovery goes hand in hand. In collaboration with a doctor at Yale I wrote this paper which has been published in the Journal of Singing and NATS. Within it I explain that the processes of vocal technique, breath, posture, and mindfulness, are powerful tools to facilitate the return to the body after a traumatic event,or a history of trauma. It creates an extra set of challenges for the student, however when worked through it can lead to extraordinary results. With the musical life enhancing the connection to the body, community, and something larger than ourselves, we can use music as a powerful tool for healing - and there is no more effective way to do that than by singing.
