This course develops basic skills in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing Mandarin Chinese. It concentrates on pronunciation, vocabulary, sentence structure and idiomatic expressions. The course also introduces geo-graphical, historical, cultural and social features of Chinese speakers relevant to language learning. Students are expected to learn 250 written Chinese characters.
This course increases speed and fluency of Mandarin Chinese with expanding vocabularies and idioms in conversation, reading comprehension and written expression. Topics cover daily activities, relationships, college life, employment, Chinese customs, traveling, geography, social issues, current events and comparisons between Chinese and American cultures.

About Me
I am from China, I am a postdoctoral researcher fellow at the University of Zurich, My second language is English, I want to be a part-time Chinese teacher if you like to learn Chinese. I received the BS degree in mathematics and applied mathematics from the China University of Petroleum (East China), Qingdao, China, in 2014, the MS degree in physical oceanography from the First Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources of China, Qingdao, in 2017, and the Ph.D. degree in cartography and geography information system from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, in 2021.
Since 2021, he has been a post-doctoral researcher with the Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Science Laboratory, Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lanzhou, China. Since 2023, he has been a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow with the Spatial Ecology & Remote Sensing, Department of Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies, University of Zurich, Zurich, Switzerland. His research activities concern machine learning and water resources based on multi-source remote sensing data.
Since 2021, he has been a post-doctoral researcher with the Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Science Laboratory, Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lanzhou, China.
