My Ancient Greek class is fitting for learners at any level. Having studied Ancient Greek now for six years, not only in school but also at the Universities of Glasgow and Cambridge, I am extremely familiar with the language and its challenges. Using the Cambridge Reading Greek and Greek GCSE textbooks, adapted texts, and even "real" Greek literature where appropriate, I envisage Greek teaching and tutoring that focusses on the necessary aspects of grammar and rote language learning but supplements them with knowledge of Ancient Greek culture, history, and literature to make the language more alive and relevant. I am well-acquainted not only with the requirements of Greek learning at school, particularly for GCSEs, but also with the expectations of university Greek courses. A beginner will come to understand the fundamentals of the language, common vocabulary, and the "philosophy" that underlies grammatical forms and syntactical structures, an intermediate learner will come to grasp the more nuanced and trickier aspects of Greek grammar and reading, and an advanced learner will find confidence in reading Greek texts "in the wild" and the fluidity of translation and interpretation. Classes can be catered easily to the specific learning needs of any individual.

Studying Latin and Greek can enhance your understanding of English vocabulary and grammar, as many English words have roots in these languages. By learning Latin and Greek, you can develop a deeper appreciation for the origins of words and their meanings. This knowledge can be useful in fields such as law, medicine, and science, where technical vocabulary has Latin and Greek roots. Knowing these languages can also improve your critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Both Latin and Greek are highly structured, and mastering them requires attention to detail and logical thinking - it's the kind of brain training that puts your morning crossword or sudoku to shame! Furthermore, studying ancient texts can help you both to develop analytical and interpretive skills that can be applied in various academic and professional fields, and also gain a firm grasp on cultures which permeate modern life. These ancient languages are also useful for those interested in pursuing a career in academia, law, medicine, or any field that values research and analysis, since many graduate programs require knowledge of Latin and Greek, and fluency in these languages can open up opportunities for research and scholarship in fields such as classics, history, and philosophy. Finally, learning Latin and Greek can also provide personal enrichment and cultural understanding. These languages have been instrumental in shaping Western culture, from their mythology and philosophy, to theatre and art. Studying Latin and Greek can provide insight into the history, literature, and art of ancient civilizations, and the ways in which they reach into modern life. In summary, learning Latin and Greek can offer a range of benefits, from improving your understanding of English to enhancing your critical thinking skills, opening up career opportunities, and providing cultural enrichment. I can ensure a pleasant and upbeat working atmosphere, that will keep your mind as sharp as a tack!

This course, divided into two different parts depending on the subject of interest (English or Greek/Ancient Greek), is for aspiring students to learn a language, support their arguments and express their ideas with clarity. The results of this effort are directed by the importance of communicating through language. The aim is to create a challenging learning environment, which will be anything but overwhelming. As a tutor, I specialise in the methodology of learning. My primary focus is on the ways through which students enjoy the learning process so that memorizing details and rules wouldn't be very difficult or uninspiring. Grammar is important, however, the method through which a student can get interested in it, is what matters the most. Homework will be assigned weekly, however, its role is of less importance compared to the actual attendance of the students during the course. Teamwork is the key to this beautiful door called 'learning a language'.

Hello! My name is Alexandros, and I’m a professional, passionate, and experienced teacher of Ancient Greek, specializing in Ancient Greek Literature. I’ve been teaching for years, and I strive to make learning a meaningful, personal, and enjoyable experience. What makes my lessons truly special is the bridge I build between language and culture. While I teach all levels of Ancient Greek, I offer three specialized tracks that I am particularly passionate about: • Homeric Greek: Dive into the world of the heroes of the Iliad and Odyssey. • Platonic Greek: Explore the elegance of Attic prose and the philosophical depth of Socrates. • Koine Greek: Read the New Testament and Hellenistic texts in their original historical context.

In this class we'll be studying philosophy, RE/RS, Ethics or English Literature. Together we'll work through some philosophy or literature texts, and develop skills for reading and writing intelligently about them. I have almost 4 years of experience tutoring A Level and GCSE students, helping them to approach exam questions by themselves and with confidence. For my English students, I try to make the study of literature more logical by giving you step-by-step guides for approaching texts. For my philosophy students, I try to make abstract problems more relevant to you by using up-to-date examples. My ultimate goal is to make studying these subjects interactive, and to help you to succeed in exams. I'm a masters student in Philosophy at Oxford, specialising in ancient philosophy, but I'm confident that I can help you whatever your interests are, and whatever your exam is on.
