Djing is a form of live performance that that can be enjoyed by everyone, this class aims to teach the basic DJ fundamentals including beat matching, sampling, the use of filters and many more. The lessons will be held by a Newcastle University Music student who specialises in turntabalism and popular music consumption. The class is open to students of all ability, I look forward to helping you on your DJ journey!

Whether you want to learn how to DJ, produce your (first) tracks, learn to play the piano, understand composition, or build a stronger (online) creative identity, I’m happy to guide you! We can work on the technical side of music, like DJing/production, arrangement, mixing, and music theory, but also on the bigger picture: creating concepts, developing your style, and building your personal brand as an artist. For me, music is all about curiosity, creativity, and having fun while learning. Everyone has their own ideas and inspiration, and I enjoy helping you shape those into something unique. My style of teaching leans towards flexibility and creativity, laying out pathways but guided by you, going where you want to go and learning the things you want to learn. I've been DJing for around half a decade, progressing through house parties, weddings, birthdays, all the way to playing at Boomtown and Brighton’s legendary Volks club. I’ve also had a long professional career of what could be summarised as “explaining stuff”. I’ve been a technical writer, trainer, consultant and course designer for adults and young people in various other fields including game design, 3D modelling, programming, and even swimming. This unusual combination of experience makes me an expert musical and technical communicator, allowing me to understand your needs, create learning goals, and ensure you get the most out of our sessions together.

I will guide you through building and managing your music collection and mastering song selection, beat matching, mixing and crafting a set on industry standard Pioneer CDJs. I have 5+ years of experience playing in festivals and clubs. No prior experience in music required. All levels welcome.
