Teaching through lectures and discussions accompanied by representative images from different periods of art history. We will discuss the composition of images, the main characteristics of different movements and styles, the meaning behind their iconography, and the historical context in which they emerged. We will discuss the history of Western art from antiquity to the present day. We won't limit ourselves to Europe! We will also discuss pre-Columbian and American art. My class is aimed at anyone interested in learning about art history, whether for personal enrichment or as a supplement to a school course.

An approach based on the close study of sometimes little-known works to develop a solid artistic culture. - Study of the materiality of the works. - Interpretation and history of the works and movements on the program. - Development of a critical mind and an artistic eye. My goal is to make History feel less like an endless list of dates and names, and help you understand what happened, why it happened, and how different events are connected. We’ll work with clear explanations, diagrams, examples, and practical techniques to prepare for exams and structure your answers effectively. I adapt each lesson to the pace and needs of every student. The idea is that you feel comfortable asking as many questions as you need and finish each lesson genuinely understanding the subject. And on top of that, I have a C1 level in English!

We can also work together if you feel stuck, disconnected from your practice or unsure how to move from isolated works or ideas toward a meaningful body of work. My approach combines close discussion of your work with contemporary art, art history, critical references and practical strategies. I do not impose a particular style or aesthetic. The aim is to help you understand what is already distinctive in your work and develop it with greater clarity, depth and confidence. Mentoring is available in English or Portuguese and is adapted to your individual goals and stage of development.
