Mathematics is a subject that many teenagers struggle with in schools all over the UK and I believe this to be because in many cases (not all) teachers have a hard time making lessons engaging for students. It is necessary to spark curiosity in students when teaching maths as this is what drives effective learning. As a young adult of 21 years old studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Bristol, I can bring that energy and engagement to students who may be put off by the thought of algebra and statistics. Additionally, I use my skills at understanding where my students are currently at in their learning and being able to patiently nudge them in the right direction. I will bring exercises to classes for us to think about when needed but I believe that a tailored experience is better for the student. For that reason I ask students to tell me what subjects they aren't so confident on so that we can build a strong understanding on those. I find this to be much more effective than just bringing a topic that is on the curriculum to the lesson.
