The IBDP English Language & Literature course (SL or HL) develops critical analysis, communication, and intercultural understanding through the study of diverse texts, including literature, media, and non-fiction. Students explore language in cultural contexts and refine their skills in close reading, writing, and oral expression. Textual Analysis: Study of literary works (novels, poems, plays) and non-literary texts (ads, speeches, articles). Thematic Exploration: Topics like power, identity, and culture across different text types. Assessment: Written Tasks: Analytical essays and creative responses. Individual Oral (IO): A 15-minute spoken analysis linking literary and non-literary texts. Exam (Paper 1 & 2): Unseen text analysis (SL/HL) and comparative essay (HL only). HL Extensions: Broader reading requirements. Additional focus on global issues in the IO. Paper 2 includes comparative essay questions.
