Florence, the birthplace of the Italian language, is also the city of Dante Alighieri, the founder of modern Italian. No, we are not related 😉, but just as Haarlem in the Netherlands is known for its ABN pronunciation, Florentine Italian is considered the standard language. I proudly convey this authentic Italian in my lessons. Professional experience I am currently a teacher of Italian at the Volksuniversiteit Delft, after having previously taught for four years at the Volksuniversiteit Rotterdam. In addition to my work as a teacher, I am also a professional singer of traditional Italian folk songs. I like to integrate this passion into my lessons, because music is a powerful tool for learning a language. Well-known lyrics and melodies not only make the learning process more fun, but also more effective. I often accompany my singing with guitar, which creates an authentic Italian atmosphere. Teaching method For beginners, I use an accessible textbook that explains the basics of Italian step by step. During the lessons, I immediately correct mistakes in sentences or pronunciation, so that you gain more confidence in speaking. I’m very grateful to have Andrea as my Italian language tutor. I am traveling to Italy soon, and his lessons have given me the confidence I need to converse in Italian when I’m there. He pays close attention to pronunciation and grammar, politely correcting you when you make mistakes and clearly teaching you the grammar rules needed to avoid making them again. The typed notes he makes during the lesson (which he sends you afterward) are clear, very helpful summaries of what we covered. I don’t think I could ask for a better tutor!
