Some say that I have travelled here from Ancient Rome to help bring the Latin language back to life. "But", you say, "Latin is dead and has been for 1.5 millenia!" If that's what you think, let me change your mind! =) I offer classes for all levels and topics, including but not limited to: ◈ Latin for complete beginners taught through guided reading and discussion, with a minimum of translation. You will be using the language to learn the language from the beginning; ◈ Latin for those who have studied grammar, but still don't know the language itself; ◈ Latin for those ready to approach non-adapted literature; ◈ Latin for those who can already read, but want to learn to speak and use the language actively; ◈ Latin for those who want to understand poetry (from Virgil and Plautus right up to modern Latin poets) and quantitative metrics intuitively, in the same way as they were understood by the Romans themselves; ◈ Latin for researchers, historians and anyone working with Latin texts and primary sources or writing academic papers; ◈ Latin for linguists: I have deep theoretical and practical knowledge of the phonetics and phonology of Latin as well as Latin historical linguistics. ◈ Latin for those not ready to commit, but interested in learning the Reconstructed Classical Pronunciation. Or the traditional Italian (aka Ecclesiastical), or the Germanic-Slavic, or even the Middle French pronunciation - whatever takes your fancy :-) ◈ conversational Latin and composition practice. 💡 About me and my lessons: I've long been part of the international community of Latin speakers, have produced videos in Latin and resources for learning it, as well co-authoring a graded poetry reader "Erictho: Tartarorum Terror" aimed at students who wish to transition away from reading adapted texts and tackle authentic poetry without the help of dictionaries or translation. Thanks to my deep interest in phonetics and phonology, I have put major emphasis on researching, modelling and teaching the sounds and rhythms of Republican Latin speech in order to make Latin poetry and prose sound the way the authors intended. I teach Latin through Latin using the singular series "Lingua Latina Per Se Illustrata" as well as various adapted and authentic texts. The goal of my lessons is simple: holistic acquisition of the language in order to allow you, the learner, to read Latin fluently, understand it at a deep level, and be able to communicate in it should the opportunity arise. I have been teaching Spanish for more than 15 years and I have worked in several institutes and embassies as a teacher and cultural bridge. I am currently living in Berlin where I am developing a personal project and working as a teacher online and in face-to-face classes. Normally I am interested in generating a creative bond with my students and that is why I work with many of them for relatively long periods of time. In the classes I am interested in having a solid grammar structure but the emphasis is on conversation. In this way I feel that a rich and interesting interaction is generated where, honestly, I myself learn from my students‘ experiences and points of view. I am convinced, as a language learner myself, that learning a language is not simply a tool for communication. I feel that to learn another language is to open oneself to another code or way of thinking and perceiving the world. For example, Romance languages (Spanish, Italian, French, etc.) think and feel the world in a different way than Germanic languages (English, German, etc.) I am fascinated by these differences and similarities. Traveling in Japan, I could only admire the beauty of how we represent the world through our language. I feel that in a world that is becoming increasingly depersonalized and where artificial intelligence and algorithms seem to creep into every corner of our lives, maintaining human, imperfect and warm contacts is a form of resistance. In that sense, both in my project with sacred languages such as philosophy and astrology and in language classes, I try to maintain the human dimension and respect the beauty and multidimensionality of communication. Apart from my background in philosophy at university, I am interested in art, politics, culture as an expression of an epoch, psychoanalysis, comparative religions, etc. In this context, with many of my more advanced students we work with texts and films where our interests intersect. For the more beginning classes the emphasis is also on conversation, but with a grammatical framework and progression. That is why I am interested in understanding the students‘ objectives. Whether learning for pleasure or for a trip, to take an international exam or for cultural reasons, I believe that framing the classes in a structure allows the creative to emerge. Per questo motivo le lezioni sono sempre costruite su misura e ti consentiranno di imparare la lingua secondo i tuoi ritmi. Durante la lezione potrai mettere alla prova tutte le capacità utili per lo studio della lingua. Si parte sempre da un ascolto o da un testo da leggere per arrivare poi a una produzione scritta o orale. Ovviamente studierai anche la grammatica, ma non sarà il centro della lezione perché il fine ultimo sarà sempre la comunicazione scritta o orale. Il materiale utilizzato è autentico. Questo significa che ascolterai audio di situazioni reali, podcast, interviste o canzoni italiane, ma leggerai anche articoli di giornale, pubblicità, e-mail e tanto altro. Insomma, avrai modo di poter ascoltare o leggere tutto ciò che ascolta o legge un madrelingua senza nessuna semplificazione. Penserò io al materiale utile per la lezione e per lo studio a casa. When I prepare a lesson, I put myself in the student's shoes and ask myself what they might want or need to do in order to learn the language. For this reason, the lessons are always tailor-made and will allow you to learn the language at your own pace. During the lesson, you’ll be able to practise all the skills you need to study the language. We always start with a listening activity or a reading text, and then move on to writing or speaking. Of course, you’ll also study grammar, but it won’t be the main focus of the lesson, because the ultimate goal is always communication – written or spoken. The material used is authentic. This means you’ll listen to real-life recordings, podcasts, interviews, or Italian songs, and read newspaper articles, advertisements, emails, and much more. In short, you’ll have the chance to hear and read everything a native speaker would, with no simplification. I’ll take care of all the materials you need for the lesson and for studying at home. Cuando preparo una clase, me pongo en el lugar del estudiante y me pregunto qué podría o querría hacer para aprender el idioma.
