About Me

Natural de Portalegre, Nuno iniciou os seus estudos musicais na Escola Profissional de Artes da Beira Interior - EPABI (Covilhã), na classe de guitarra dos professores Pedro González e Zaira Toledo.
Licenciou-se no curso de música da Universidade de Évora (2017/2018), na classe do professor Dejan Ivanovic, com a máxima classificação a guitarra.

Experience / Qualifications

Ao longo da sua formação, trabalhou com professores de renome internacional, tais como Zoran Dukic, Laura Young, Rafael Aguirre, Carles Trepat, Gerardo Arriaga, Enno Voorhorst e Michalis Kontaxakis.
Entre os vários prémios obtidos em concursos nacionais e internacionais, destacam-se: o 1º prémio (escalão G) no Concurso Nacional de Guitarra Clássica do Conservatório de Música de Ourém e Fátima e o 1º prémio na variante de Orquestra de Guitarras no 14º Concurso Internacional Cidade do Fundão (2013); o 1º prémio na categoria de Guitarra médio-superior no primeiro concurso internacional de Guitarra e Timple, Néstor Álamo (Gran Canária - Espanha), o 1º prémio no nível Superior do 15º Concurso Internacional Cidade do Fundão e o 2º prémio no nível Superior da categoria A (Solistas) do Prémio Jovens Músicos/Antena 2 (2014).
É membro fundador do Duo Arsis juntamente com o guitarrista João Robim, com o qual se apresenta regularmente em concursos e concertos nacionais e internacionais, tendo recebido o 1º prémio no nível superior do 3º concurso nacional de música Gilberta Paiva (piano e música de câmara) (2017) e o 1º prémio no 2º Concurso Internacional de Música de Câmara com Guitarra de Braga (2018).
Trabalhou com prestigiados maestros, tais como Rogério Peixinho (orquestra sinfónica da EPABI e orquestra Guitarrafonia), Luis Cipriano (Coro misto da Beira Interior) e Christopher Bochmann (Grupo de Música Contemporânea da Universidade de Évora).
Em 2018, ministrou as aulas de guitarra no Ciclo de Masterclass “25 anos” da EPABI.
No mesmo ano e também na Universidade de Évora, foi diretor musical, compositor e músico executante na encenação do Prof. Dr. Paulo Alves Pereira da peça teatral “Gladiadores”, de Alfredo Cortez.
Paralelamente e numa outra vertente musical, iniciou o percurso na música improvisada com a guitarra elétrica, o baixo elétrico e eletrónica, através de vários projetos, residências artísticas, concertos e gravações realizados em Portugal e na Alemanha, tais como Salad Ensemble (Why Flamingos Fly I e II), Street Fight (Once Again Animals will Rule the World), Articulation of Attack (The Super Unsatisfied EP, Super Unsatisfied presents Bad Influence on the World EP e Super Unsatisfied presents El Taco Bonito EP) e Ciclo Majestade Interior (Rito Segundo: A descoberta da Matéria), todos eles orientados por João Clemente (Profound Whatever), com quem continua a desenvolver trabalho regularmente.
Em 2019, gravou em Berlim o álbum Beyond the Irreversible, que deu origem à banda Byrd Sno, da qual é fundador e com a qual tem realizado vários concertos em Portugal desde 2020.
Tendo sido participante assíduo desde 2017 em várias residências artísticas e projetos ERASMUS+ um pouco por toda a Europa, em 2021 foi tutor convidado na residência artística Soundshift em Schloss Bröllin, na Alemanha.
No presente ano, foi o responsável pela sonoplastia para as performances: “Sem Água a vida é uma Seca” e Glitch Fiction; a primeira criada e encenada pela artista Sara Afonso, e a segunda por Lorena Sequeyro e Sara Afonso, artistas com quem trabalha regularmente.
Foi também este ano que se juntou em duo com o percussionista Francisco Cipriano, com o qual explora o universo da música improvisada e tudo o que esta pode envolver física, psicológica e musicalmente nos próprios artistas e no público; THERE ARE EXISTS ON EVERY FLOOR foi o nome do concerto de estreia.

My name is João, his professional Classical Guitar with more than 15 years of experience. He has studied guitar performance at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Holland and in Musical Pedagogy at the University of Aveiro. In addition to classical music, he also has considerable experience in other genres, such as blues, folk and rock. For beginners I teach the basics + foundations of the guitar and, for the adventurous, I teach fingerstyle guitar from a variety of styles: from Folk (Eddie Vedder) to Chet Atkin's style up to the moderns Tommy Emmanuel and Calum Graham.
This technique is very enriching and gives a lot of freedom to the player. There can be a component of music theory + improvisation which is inherent to this teaching in order to assimilate the subjects the best way possible.

Creative, committed and persistent are my main characteristics as a teacher, professional with 10 years of experience in musical production, sound engineering and guitar lessons. In 2014 I decided to move to London in order to improve in a more deeper level my sound engineer and mastering technics in LondonAmp – London Academy of Music Production where he completed the Sound Engineering Certificate course. My name is José and I have a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz from the "Escola Súperior de Música de Lisboa" one of the finest Jazz Universities in Europe.
I am a jazz musician with a lot of intenational performances in my career, I have played all through Europe and in China with amazing musicians such as Peter Evans, Shane Endsley, Ohad Talmor, André Fernandes, Jesús Santandreu, Javier Subatín, Óscar Graça, João Paulo Esteves-da-Silva, Maria Villanueva and others.
Aside from that, I have also participated in professional theatre companies as an orchestra member and also in projects outside of the Jazz world.

I offer dynamic and customized lessons to my students, regardless of their age and proficiency , I try to communicate and share with them the necessary skills and tools needed to become a better musician, and also to cultivate a broader and simultaneously deeper understanding of music and art in general.

My methodology is based on the student's interests, adapting to their preferred genres and supporting the student according to their goals, from those who want to be able to play an instrument as a hobby to those who want to train as a professional musician.

My priority is to create an environment where you feel comfortable, set small challenges to make learning exciting and see your progress through these achievements.
