Music production is one thing that refers to a lot of different things as it's in a sort of middle ground between something purely musical as composition, instrumentation or arraging and the technical aspect, like mixing, mastering or using a daw.
In this classes we can focus on what you want to do or learn regarding those topics, or the ones that I think would help you best, putting an emphasis on how you can apply the information that you gain in your own way or imitating certain aspects of a specific genre, finishing songs, mixing them or just to loose the fear of making music and became more relaxed in a creative sense and have fun with it.

You'll need a computer with a any DAW, but I recommend Ableton because is the one that I can teach the most about.

About Me

I'm a music producer and sound engineer from Spain. I've been working professionally in various things regarding sound and music from recording in studio, mixing, mastering, producing and composing music for clients to doing live sound gigs like concerts, festivals and such.
I've been also working as a music teacher for a couple of years, teaching guitar, bass and music production skills.
I have a fairly wide understanding of how music is done and worked on from a lot of perspectives and, in my experience, I've found that knowing from a lot of places is deeply benefecial to know how to work with various people and have the correct intention for the job.
I hope I can help you with whatever your aspiration is!

Education

I’m a self taught musician, everything from technique to composition and production I learned experimenting and studying on my own.

I went to CES school in Madrid in 2019 to study sound engineering, there I learned how to use a soundboard, studio recording techniques, mixing with analog gear and in the box and mastering among other things.

I was an intern in the Royal Opera house in Madrid and learnt a lot from that kind of interdisciplinary technical and artistic work done in such a vast way, from opera shows and rehearsals to small theater plays, audiovisual recordings both in video and sound booths and flamenco concerts.

I hold a Master of Arts in Music Production from the University of York (UK), completed in September 2018. During this intensive postgraduate program, I developed advanced skills in audio recording, sound design, electronic music production, mixing/mastering, and music distribution.

Even in fairly high profile scenarios, producing a realistic midi mockup of sampled instrument is nowadays a very helpful skill. It's not always possible to arrange recordings with real musicians, and at the same time we as composers want to showcase what we can do in the best way possible, and our clients will rightfully ask for the best quality despite the potential lack of budget.

A wonderfully crafted piece of music can easily fall apart without proper knowledge of sample manipulation in this sense. Beside being a composer myself, I had the luck of working for years in studios that specialized in midi productions and sample library programming: I can teach you the software I write with (Cubase) and, more in general, how to get the best results out of your sample libraries, by manipulating them inside of Kontatk/Sine/Spitfire engine, or by advicing you on how to proper postproduce it. We can cover every stage of production, up to the basis of mixing and mastering.

I studied a classical piano bachelor, and later a jazz master and a live electronics master. In the meantime, I have been teaching music and playing synths, drum machines, and computers. It's longer than 5 years now!
Electronic music is a very vast world. The possibilities are endless. But do you need to learn everything, or only what interests you to make the music you want to do? From listening and analyzing a song you like, we will go through the necessary knowledge for you to achieve it:
- What do you need to build your home studio in order to create something similar?
- Which instruments (or plugins) are being used.
- Whether or not a knowledge of music theory is necessary.
- And in which different ways / through which paths could you achieve something like what you desire?

At the same time that we analyze and learn, you are also going to be encouraged to create! Practice makes the master, and the more you create, the more familiar you'll be with the tools and the environments that we learn in class. For people interested in live electronics (live-processing an acoustic instrument or programming live sets), I also have knowledge of Max MSP and I can teach the basics or help you program any kind of device you propose.

Ableton is an diverse, creativity-fueled music production software that allows you to create, compose and experiment with sound. It is a powerful tool for both music production and for live performances. Although it can seem daunting at first, I will guide you through the software via a custom-made path based entirely on your goals.

My classes are suitable for complete beginners, as well students at an intermediate levels. Together we will dive into the software on both a practical and creative level, all while keeping your creative goals in mind.

I have been a making music for over fifteen years, and producing in Ableton for seven. I am a graduate of AEMA - the Electronic Music department at Conservatory of Amsterdam. I produce and perform electronic music under the name Age of Aconitum.
