My name is Daan and I am an experienced drummer with 7 years of experience playing different styles of music and live performances. I offer drum lessons for beginners of all ages, where we work together to develop your drumming skills.

During my drum lessons you will learn the basic principles of drumming, but also how to come up with rhythms for your own songs. I will guide you step by step in learning different drum rhythms and techniques so that you will soon be able to play your favorite songs.

I adapt my lessons to your individual level and learning style, so that you can learn to play the drums in an effective and enjoyable way. Whether you've never held drumsticks before or already have some experience, I'll be happy to help.

Extra information

I can teach at a different location if there is a drum kit there. It is useful to bring your own drum sticks when you come to practice at my location. We practice on location in the Jamstudios near the Westerpark or in the q-factory. The cost of renting the studio is 12 euros per hour and that is in addition to the normal rate.

About Me

I'm a boy who likes to teach and especially in those things that I also like like drumming.
I hope to show more people the beautiful world of drumming through this platform, because we always need more drummers in the world.
In a year I'm going to study, but until then I see this as a nice side job.

I completed secondary school at 6 Havo level at the Geert Maat College in Amsterdam.

I do think that since drumming goes back all the way to the primal ages, we all have the drummer inside us, it just hasn't awakened yet. I want to be that person who will awake the drummer inside of who is wanting to learn. I feel fortunate that I'm able to do what I've studied and get to live my passion. Hello! My name is Aurel and I am a French Amsterdam-based drummer.

Although currently specialized in Jazz music, I have studied various esthetics, and Pop and Rock music, in particular, are part of my background (I played in several pop-rock bands). Therefore I am able to teach a broad panel of music styles. I also have many drum methods and charts at my disposal, and have experience in teaching children from the age of 6, as well as teenagers and adults.

Lessons and teaching method:
I always adapt to the student's tastes and learning profiles. This is why, during the first lesson, and on a regular basis afterwards, I always take time to discuss with my students (or their parents if they are very young) to figure out together the path they want or need to follow. In addition to my jazz drums bachelor and master degrees from the conservatory of Amsterdam (CvA), which included a thorough pedagogical training and a specialization in Indian Karnatic techniques, I benefit from 4 years of experience as an employed drum teacher in two French associative music schools (Ecole de musique de Nangis and Conservatoire des Deux Rives, Moret-sur-Loing).

I am also an active musician, both on the Dutch and the French scene. My trio mainly tours in France and has played at venues such as the Sunside (Paris), or participated in competitions like the Keep An Eye International Jazz Award. I am also the co-leader of the sextet Chai Masters, finalist of several European competitions (Leiden Jazz Award, Golden Jazz Trophy in Lille, France, 7 Virtual Jazz Contest). If you are a total beginner with music, percussion is one of the easiest way into it. Instruments sound nice already when you play them. Lessons start from knowing the pulse and developing your groove, to knowing the notes and establishing basic musicality.
