The abacus is an ancient calculating tool, used long before calculators. I learned this method as a child through the UCMAS program, and it has been incredibly beneficial. Beyond mental arithmetic, it allowed me to stand out from other students and feel particularly comfortable in elementary, middle, and high school, especially in subjects that require concentration, logic, and a good memory, whether in mathematics, science, history, or other subjects where it's necessary to retain information and structure one's thoughts.
What I love about this method is that it doesn't just develop calculation speed. It also helps strengthen concentration, memory, visualization, logic, self-confidence, and comfort with numbers. For many children, it's a real foundation that helps them far beyond the sessions, in how they learn, think, and approach school with more confidence.
Each child has their own way of understanding. My role is to adapt to them, to patiently pass on this method, and to make learning stimulating, progressive, and accessible.
Since this method requires regularity to give real results, I prefer support over several sessions, with progression and training between lessons.

I specialize in understanding tehnicalities and formalities in math at highschool and university level. I am very precise and rigourous in explaining providing the general ideas first to build up the intuition. I give homeworks after each sessions and I expect them to be solved for the next session otherwise no progress has been made.

I propose to teach you the method of mental arithmetic as taught in Montessori schools: the abacus. Very fun, this technique facilitates mental arithmetic and can be learned from the age of 4.

During the sessions I will teach the student to:
- read and write on the abacus
- rely on abacus
- carry out calculations on an abacus (starting with simple addition and subtraction operations and going crescendo)
- memorize the abacus to ultimately be able to do the head calculations

I have worked for 6 years now with kids from international schools who were "hating" maths because the methods used by their IB teachers were too complicated and hard to understand.

I believe that no one is "not mathematical", we just have to find the way to approach the subject together; I have indeed a few teaching methods that can be adapted to a kids' needs, I believe every kid needs a different method to fully understand the subject.

I provide 3 types of lessons that represent 3 phases:
1. THEORY - Understanding the theory behind the exercises, this phase is the shortest since I believe that to fully understand maths you need to exercise.
2. EXERCISES - Doing exercises divided by subject we. just went through in the theory part.
3. PAST PAPERS - Going through past papers to "simulate" a potential exam.

Dividing the process in 3 phases has proven really effective in succeeding not only during the year but also at the final exams.
