I have taught in an IBDP independent school for 5 years in Singapore, as well as in an American School offering APs for 5 years in Taiwan. I’m certified to teach in both courses. I was an EE supervisor while in the IBDP school for all 5 years. I was also a Chemistry Olympiad coach when I was at that school, as well as a pioneer teacher for an Accelerated Class for Science, which is a talent development program.
Teaching was my first job and I love it. Interacting with students is the greatest joy besides helping them to learn and at the same time enjoy learning. I love Mathematical problems because they are like puzzles. Once I have the keys (concepts or relationships), I just have to figure out how to use them. It's almost like an escape room or jigsaw. Once I figure out how the pieces fit, there is the sense of satisfaction of solving it. Mathematics trains us in being resilient, systematic and logical thinkers and at times, our imagination and creativity.
Science on the other hand, teaches us about ourselves and the world around us - how we interact with each other, how we interact with the world and how other objects or living things interact with each other. The joy of discovery keeps me going. It's always fun to discover something new. Of course, I love the experiments too. It never ceases to amaze students when they see how chemical reactions create something new, change in color, gases, light and heat, and how these can be useful in everyday life. It also teaches us to be respectful of natural laws and be good stewards of the earth and its resources.
