Ciao! My name is Marika and I am Italian mother language. Learning a foreign language can be extremely difficult. The simplest way is to put into practice what you learn daily, and to do this you need a Tutor to talk to. A friendly and patient person who has already faced the difficulties of learning a new language.
That's why my lessons are based on conversation.
I believe the best way to learn is through speaking without fear - I'll take notes while you speaking and share with you some tools that help you to learn efficiently. "Provando si sbaglia, sbagliando s'impara"! (lear from failure!)

My approach is based on conversation. I will shape a method that stimulates conversation and interactivity with a touch of fun. You will improve your pronunciation and memorize many words.

I use games, fantasy situations, and dialogues that stimulate discussion between us. I will also use videos, audio, and articles to improve your speaking, listening, and pronunciation skills.

If you have never studied Italian, I will improve your language skills by guiding you step by step. We will start with phonetics, vocabulary and then with simple presentation dialogues. In a short time, you will find that you begin to understand and speak Italian.

If you have a specific purpose or interest, tell me! We will form a program together and maybe I will learn something from you.

About Me

Ciao! I'm Marika, an Italian teacher, museum assistant, and tour guide living in London.

I was born in Treviso, a city located in North-East of Italy and famous for the prosecco. I have a BA in Painting and Art History. After graduation, I traveled a lot and faced the challenge of learning a second language - just like you.

My work allows me to use both my mother tongue - Italian - and English to communicate efficiently with visitors in the museum. This increased my passion for languages and led me to teach my language to others, first through language exchange and then by teaching privately in London.

If I am not in the museum or teaching Italian you can find me in the park doing yoga.

My three main areas of expertise (not necessarily in this order):

- Chess: I teach chess to beginners and intermediate players up to ELO 1800 or ECF 1700, working on the tactical and strategic aspects of openings, middle games and endgames.. "chess is life in miniature"!

- Fitness / Running / Triathlon: I coach people who want to get fitter and generally incorporate any endurance activity into a health(ier) lifestyle. I am a dedicated coach who has competed in several marathons and Ironman races (also qualified for the Ironman World Championship). I focus on nutrition, stress and sleep as well for a holistic approach.

- Languages: I specialize in tutoring Italian and Spanish; my style is to keep students challenged and motivated through simple classes and practical exercises (pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary).. I'm a demanding teacher but will guide you in a fun and interactive way.

I’m from Rome and am fluent in Italian, English and Mandarin Chinese. Previously studied in Italy for 5 years, I improved my Chinese translation skills while taking a double BA in Mandarin Chinese and Art History at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (SOAS). Due to my interest in Chinese language and culture, I had the opportunity to live and study in Beijing for several years. I passed the Chinese Proficiency Test HSK5, and now self-studying for HSK6 (top level).

Whether you have been learning Italian for some time or have begun out of boredom during lockdown, chances are you may want to test your skills and get better at conversation.

I'm a PhD student at UCL and I have lived in London for the past seven years. As I have no formal training in teaching languages this would not be an Italian class, but simply an informal, relaxed way to improve your conversation.

We can meet in person (Hackney) or over Zoom/Skype/Whatsapp (we are all familiar with all of those by now!) and have a chat. Italian is my native languages, I have started teaching italian when I was at Uni in Coventry. Here I had the chance to practice teaching for a various of different students, from student to adult, from european to asian students.
