Hi there, fellow violinist,
My name is Crispian. I have been playing the violin for more than 25 years. I studied to become an orchestral musician at the University of Cape Town in South Africa and am currently working towards a LTCL via Trinity College London. I hold a distinction in violin for grade 8 via Trinity College and a merit in music theory for grade 6 via Trinity College.
About the lesson
I teach the Trinity College/ABRSM String Syllabus for violin. I also use the Paul Rolland teaching method to develop the necessary skills you need to be able to play the violin well.
I approach each technical skill a violinist needs with as much attention to detail and development exercises to build on and strengthen each skill.
For students who have had previous education I generally assess their skill on the violin by letting them perform a piece so that I can gauge where to start their training from.
I teach beginner/intermediate and advanced violin players up to grade 8 in violin.
I believe that learning music should be fun and enjoyable at the same time. I am super excited to be your tutor and help you along your journey to become the best musician through my training and your practice efforts...

About Me
Hello, my name is Crispian. I was born into a family of music and as a child I took a keen interest in music at the very young age of three. I was very impressed and fascinated by the sounds that came from various instruments which were present in my childhood home. I eventually took an interest in the violin and piano and later settled to develop my musical talent on the violin.
Growing up, I sang in Church choirs across, Soprano, Alto and Tenor voices and attended choral events, Mass Choir Summer Schools in and around South Africa.
Attending orchestral workshops came later as I developed my talent on the violin in the higher grades. I remember a Trinity College examiner writing in a past grade report once, "Talented Performer"
Both my mother and father were my first music teachers who took the time and effort to nurture this amazing gift of music in me. Today I am grateful that I have been blessed with an amazing skill which I can now offer to others wanting to learn the art of violin playing.
My guidance under my father took me up to grade 6 violin. From there I then furthered my studies through the University of Cape Town to obtain a performance diploma in Orchestral Studies where I was under the tutelage of Professor Jurgen Schwietering, who was a previous Concert Master of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. I also had lessons with Professor Farida Bacharova during my studies at UCT who is Associate Professor, Head of strings at UCT.
While I pursue my career as a musician and violin instructor I further my education towards a Licentiate diploma in violin performance/teaching and a Licentiate diploma in music theory via Trinity College London.
After doing a diploma in Orchestral studies at UCT I pursued a career in Software Engineering but over the last 5 years I have made my way back to my original career choice of music.
