Ciao! I'm Elisa, and I am a native Italian girl. I believe that, with the right method, everyone can learn a new language, even though you know nothing about it. Wether you have some knowledge of Italian that you want to improve, or you need to start from zero, I can help you! Once we make sure you are fine and confident with the basics of the language, we can adjust the lessons to your own needs: we can focus on conversation and everyday use words and sentences, so that at the end you will eventually be able to speak and understand Italian in real life situations, or we can focus more on the grammar if you need to improve that aspect of the language, or just on whatever you need. What I try to do in my lessons is to recreate the process that we go through when we learn our first language as kids. It's proven that when learning a language, we tend to remember new words better if we hear them in different situations and contests, and that's what I'll base my lessons on. As an Italian Opera singer, I help since many years singers with the right pronunciation of the repertoire they sing, helping them in shaping the language in a clear way, which also helps the singing. Our lesson will involve speaking, pronunciation exercises and singing. We will start the lesson by reading the text and finding the right direction and emphasis. We will focus on the sounds and how to produce them. In the second part of the lesson, we will apply all of the above to the singing!

Let's discover the origins and evolution of Greek and European culture! We will study the following themes: the myth of Europe, the history of ancient Greece, Greek and Roman culture, the Middle Ages and Byzantium, the Renaissance, the Ottoman occupation, Christianity and religions in Europe, the Europe of contradictions: Science or Magic, the Enlightenment, the Greek Revolution and the influences of the French Revolution, the Europe of Nations, the European Union. Lessons are structured around presentations, the use of texts, maps and other historical sources, questions that fuel discussions, exercises and analyses.

In this course, you will learn a range of linguistic methods and learn the terms used for describing a specific aspect of language or phenomenon (lexis, morphemes, and 'telegraphic stage' to give a few examples). The course requires you to explore your own data using quantitative and qualitative analysis (eg: how frequently are slang phrases used? Are there new auxiliaries being created?). No historical linguistics or literature is involved, but language change or specific traits will be sampled via your own data collection (if this is what is demanded in your course). As many students need to present a "year abroad" dissertation at University level (3rd year in the UK of a Modern Languages or Linguistics Undergraduate course) I can help you to research and structure your year abroad work, both in English (Linguistics) and Romance languages (French, Italian, Spanish). The topics that have arisen from recent discussions with students relate to French Caribbean writing, Italian resistance and reprisals in Rome (Fosse Ardiatine), and Spanish Etica franquista in films (among others).

If you wish to brush up your Italian, resume a past series of lessons, or simply start from scratch learning Italian, this is the right lesson for you! I like to personalize each class/course according to the needs and goals of my students. My classes are focused on improving the student's communication skills. At beginner and lower intermediate levels, I prefer using a text book/ student book in the first part of the class. I usually use "Nuovissimo Progetto Italiano" and "Arrivederci" by Edilingua, or "Nuovo Espresso" and "Dieci" by Alma Publishing. For the second part of the lesson, I create engaging contents using original videos, press articles, extracts from blogs and social media, literary texts. If the students do not feel comfortable using Italian from scratch, I can switch to English, German, or Dutch. The course fee includes the correction of home assignments.
