About Me
I have been fluent in English for over 15 years because I have my own travel company. I love adventure and speak English every day at work and at home. I am enthusiastic, creative with learning, and understand better than anyone how important it is to be involved in the first step on the path to growth. I enjoy listening and adapting the level to what is really needed. I love clear explanations and taking concrete steps with pleasure!

Education
HBO degree in tour guiding and mountain hiking guiding. I have been guiding groups abroad for over 10 years and use English as my working language every day, both professionally and privately.
Experience / Qualifications
As a mountain leader, I often lead groups and also provide personal coaching when people are struggling during a trip or journey. I enjoy personal contact and positive guidance.

I’m a former primary school teacher with over eight years of private tutoring experience in Amsterdam. I’ve worked with students attending Dutch, British and other international schools, including the British School and ISA, and am familiar with the different curricula and expectations.

I specialise in working with students with ADHD and other learning differences. Alongside teaching the subject, I help with the things that can make schoolwork difficult: getting started, staying focused, organising assignments and knowing what to do when you feel stuck. This might mean breaking work into smaller steps, trying a different explanation or taking a break before coming back to a problem. I take the time to get to know each student and understand what works for them.

I teach maths, English and other primary school subjects, with particular experience supporting children who are learning in English as a second language. Students come to me for different reasons: some need help keeping up at school, some have lost confidence, and others enjoy a subject and want more of a challenge. I want them to feel comfortable asking questions and saying when something doesn’t make sense.

Having moved between countries myself, I also understand how much students have to adjust when they enter a new school system. I can help them work through unfamiliar material and expectations while they settle in.

Before moving to Amsterdam, I taught all subjects in Grades 1 and 2 at a private international school in Dubai. I’m American and a native English speaker, with a BA in Sociology from UCLA and an MSc in Medical Anthropology and Sociology from the University of Amsterdam. I also work as a writer and editor, and support secondary school and university students with essay planning, academic writing and research.

Lessons are available in Amsterdam or online. Feel free to send me a message with your child’s age, school and what you’re looking for help with!

An additional travel fee applies to lessons at your home if the journey is more than 20 minutes by bike.
