About Me

Born in England, John represents the youngest member of a family spanning three generations of musicians.
John began his musical journey in his hometown of Newcastle. He undertook initial studies with Iona Brown and Julia Jasinski, before going on to obtain his Bachelor's Degree with Honours at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, under Professor Benedict Holland. Currently – through the generous support of Alex Amos – John is studying in London under Dr. Remus Azoitei.
During the 2019/2020 season, John undertakes a 15-concert recital tour of the United Kingdom, as part of the Master Musicians International Concert Series. As a soloist in previous seasons, John has performed Vivaldi to Khachaturian with youth and amateur orchestras and given solo recitals at the Literary and Philosophical Society, EUROPAfest (Romania), Middlesbrough Town Hall Recital Series, amongst many others.
As an orchestral musician, John has appeared in many of Britain’s premier concert halls, including the Bridgewater Hall (Manchester), the Duke’s Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall (London), and The Sage (Gateshead), and has performed at home and abroad in such festivals as the Liverpool International Music Festival, the Manchester International Festival, Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte and Festival Orchestre Giovanili (Italy). He has worked under the baton of such esteemed conductors as Elim Chan, Sir Mark Elder, Vasily Petrenko, and Vasily Sinaisky amongst others, and has also been broadcast on BBC’s Radio 3.
During his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, John was fortunate to have the opportunity to play chamber music in a wide variety of ensembles, leading to numerous performances around the North of England. His exploration of the chamber music literature was enhanced by the guidance of a number of prominent professional musicians, such as members of the Chilingirian Quartet, Elias Quartet, the Sitkovetsky Piano Trio, the Talich Quartet, and Trio Gaspard, as well as renowned collaborative clarinetist Matthew Hunt.
John has been privileged to receive masterclasses from many of the world’s leading musicians – including Levon Chilingirian, Mauricio Fuks, Natalia Lomeiko, and Yuri Zhislin. Inspired by the teaching he has received, John has been keen to give back where he can, and in 2017/18 was selected to support and coach the string section of the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain. He continues to share his expanding musical knowledge through his own private teaching in London, and at the Ealing Junior Music School where he is their youngest string tutor.
John is thankful both to Jonathan Sparey and to Florian Leonhard Fine Violins for having loaned his instruments in the past.
He is also grateful for the support given to him by the EMI Sound Foundation, The Loan Fund for Musical Instruments, The Christina Aitchison Trust, and The Kathleen Trust.

John plans to commence his master’s degree in 2021, and to keep finding the best places to eat!

I have over 3 years violin teaching experirnce, teaching students of varying ages and standards, and also offer the lesson in Mandarin. I help students work towards ABRSM exams or towards their own goals, also teaching who aren’t interested in exams and wish to learn for fun. I make different plans for different students. My teaching style is friendly and relaxed. But I have certain requirements for my students.

Starting in September - VIOLIN LESSONS for beginners to advanced in Antwerp / VIOLIN LESSONS for beginners to advanced levels in Antwerp
After completing my Bachelor's degree in violin at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel, I did a year of Erasmus at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf, in Germany. From September, I will start my Master at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen. Discovering new ways of learning is very important to me. I like to seize opportunities and meet inspiring musicians during Masterclasses in Belgium and abroad. Perseverance and work, while respecting oneself, are for me the keys to long-term progress. Learning music with kindness is the most important thing for me. I adapt to the needs and desires of each student, so that the process is personalized and motivating. Being able to pass on my passion enriches me enormously and allows me to acquire new skills as a musician. I teach in French and English. I also have some German and I plan to learn Dutch this year.

Violin, Flute and Solfeggio lessons
VIOLIN: My lessons cover several aspects necessary for good violin playing and free musical expression: healthy body posture, stable technique, attentive listening, musicality, personal development. It is from these notions that the quality of sound, intonation, bowing technique, technical skill, expression, and many others arise. I also give importance to well-being, self-confidence, or other abilities that the student would like to acquire. TRANSVERSE FLUTE: My lessons cover several aspects necessary for good playing of the transverse flute and free musical expression: healthy body posture, stable technique, attentive listening, musicality, personal development. It is from these notions that the quality of sound, digital and respiratory technique, intonation, expression, and many others arise. I also give importance to well-being, self-confidence, or other abilities that the student would like to acquire. SOLFÈGE: My courses cover several aspects necessary for the successful learning of music theory: strategies for recognizing intervals, chords and rhythms and their executions, singing, musical indications, exercises, attentive listening, musicality. These aspects are essential to instrumental practice, because they first allow you to correctly read a score, then analyze and interpret it.

Composition and arrangement classes for string quartet and orchestra
The idea is to have the basic notions to be able to work a string organic. You will study how to write for each string instrument: violin, viola, cello and double bass. Also how to work together, whether for a trio, quartet or thinking about a larger organization like an orchestra.

Zoltán
Violin and viola lessons at all levels for ages 14 and over
In addition to my work at Bhaktivedanta College Budapest, I currently teach students at all levels over the age of 14 online or in person in the 3rd district of Budapest. I also teach adults who are complete beginners. I deal with classical music, but if my students want to learn works that can be classified in another genre, I am happy to teach them as well. I have only given Sunday times in the timetable because I am sure to be free on that day, but other days are also possible by individual arrangement.

In this violin course you will learn a foundation in learning one of the most rewarding instruments in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Grip the bow, hold the violin, have the perfect hand position and enjoy playing the strings while learning how to read the notes, the violin rhythm and technique. Students will generally learn better if they feel a connection developing with their teacher, whether that’s through humour, showing care about their development, or making sure teacher devote time equally to all students when in a group. Sebastian

Alethea
Violin Lessons for children, adults, or anyone who wants to learn the violin!
I started taking violin lessons at the age of 7. After years of training, I am currently continuing my violin studies at Utrecht Conservatory. I have also attended music theory classes for 6 years because it is very useful to have some knowledge of it when playing any instrument. If you would like, I would be more than happy to share some knowledge of music theory along with the violin lessons. Lessons are private and not in groups.

Gian Marco
Violin/Viola/Music Theory Tutor with international experience
I am a professional musician and educator, with international experience as a Violin/Viola/ Chamber Music/Theory teacher, soloist, orchestra leader, chamber musician, and jury member. I have graduated in Violin at the Conservatory of Music "G.P. da Palestrina" of Cagliari- Italy and in Viola at the Conservatory of Music "G. Verdi" of Milan-Italy. My professional activity led me to work in several orchestras as performer, and in various music schools as upper- string and chamber music teacher. I lived and worked in Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, and since 2012 I made London my home, where I developed further teaching experience within the British system. I have also founded "The Geminiani Project" (www.geminianiproject.com) of which I am the director and the leader of the Camerata Geminiani, ensemble that has been invited to perform in England, Italy, Germany, France, Portugal, Denmark, and Sweden. At the same time I have established my ensemble, I have also launched the Geminiani Youth Orchestra (formed by young musicians aged 6 to 17 years old) as I believe in the importance of giving an opportunity to young players to perform together, and the amateur ensemble Hampton Chamber Orchestra; we performed with both orchestras at various venues in London. Regarding my teaching technique, I believe that each student is different and unique, so the first thing I try to do is to establish a connection, then I try to understand the major skills and major difficulties of the student in order to develop a personalised system; I pay much importance also to the emotional aspect the student is dealing with in order to build passion and love for music. I strongly believe that, once achieved a technical skill, the student must have the chance to play with the teacher and with other students, and feel the excitement of making music together. I have experience in preparing students for auditions, competitions, or ABRSM/Trinity exams with excellent results; I love what I do and I love to see my pupils achieving high level results. Some of my students have been awarded at international competitions, some other former students are covering leading roles in international orchestras or in chamber ensembles.
