Creative writing tutoring, mentoring, and/or coaching

In this engaging class, students will explore classic and modern literature whilst developing their own storytelling skills. Through interactive discussions, fun writing exercises, and personalized feedback, students will learn to analyze texts, enhance their vocabulary, and express their creativity. They'll dive into imaginative worlds, build compelling characters, and craft original stories, all while improving their reading comprehension and writing techniques. Students will be expected to complete a homework task weekly. The pieces will be marked and given feedback, alongside a discussion about the piece itself. This class intends to improve the students understanding and knowledge of English Literature and Creative Writing, through fostering a love of the texts given, and empowering young writers to confidently share their voices.

English Language and Literature are compelling and multifaceted subjects that offer a deep dive into the art of communication and the power of storytelling. Engaging with these subjects allows you to explore the richness of the English language and the diverse forms of literary expression. English Language and Literature have always been my strongest subjects and have always peaked my interest, it would be an honour for me to allow you to also develop an interest in such a wonderful subject.

I can aid students from preschool to IGCSE/GCSE level in English, Verbal Reasoning, and essay writing. Having achieved an A* in both English Language and English literature, I am passionate about teaching children how to love the subject and excel in their examinations. I have tutored English in the past to both preschool and IGCSE pupils, offering a dynamic and interactive teaching style that helps nurture a child's love for English and creative writing. I have access to the poetry pamphlet taught in most schools for IGCSE, but can access whatever syllabus is needed for a specific exam. I also have created several worksheets for students who are learning English as their second language. Having studied French, German, and Latin at school, I am aware of the etymology of many words which will allow students to connect meanings across their language to understand the literature fully. In my free time, I write poetry and novels and can share many teachings I learnt on a creative writing course I undertook in 2016.

In this class, we'll work on shaping new drafts whilst learning about international poetic forms as well as producing some free verse work. We'll edit our material and, if we have multiple sessions, we'll put together a brief collection! We will explore the world of the senses, memories, and connect to language in a new, profound way. My course is not prescriptive, and we'll meet your voice wherever you're at right now. You'll be taught by a published poet with work experience in the UK and North America. I've taught Creative Writing to university students at a world-leading school, and worked with younger audiences, and I'm happy to work with a variety of forms in English. I studied for my MFA in Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia, and won a scholarship as the strongest poet in my cohort.

I’ve successfully helped mentor people on their journey into creative writing and in the classes we will take the journey looking at ways to help overcome obstacles that might be stopping or blocking your progresses, or helping you to continue writing you may have started. We will do this with a mixture of looking at your work and thinking of strategies to help you overcome any potential blocks. Although I have a particular interest in writing for plays, (I am a playwright and published poet), this class is for also for those wanting write creatively.

After graduating from the University of Warwick with a first class degree in English and Theatre, and securing one of eight places for writers at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School this year, I want to extend my passion into helping others discover their linguistic flair; tackling the whole spectrum from crafting character, to constructing dialogue and beyond. I've written a dozen plays in the last year alone, so consider myself well acquainted with the pitfalls and complex methodologies of this often tricky art. I hope to use these classes to help you develop more reliable writing practices and overcome the dreaded writer's block once and for all.

I specialise and have years of experience, skills and training in SEN as well as many other subjects. Therefore, I'm qualified in supporting and providing primary age children who have learning difficulties and need full support in any subject from Key Stages 1-2. Updates on your child's progress and homework will also be provided regularly. This includes full support given to mainstream children who do not have learning difficulties but need some tuition in English, Maths or Science etc. Exam support for those preparing for their SATS in Key Stages 1 - 2 will also be given. All children will be provided with homework on a weekly basis. I like to give parents of young children regular updates on how their child is progressing. For older children or adults, I can provide support with coursework, essay writing and exam support, just ask! My teenage daughter had tuition from myself whilst studying for her GCSE's this year. She managed to pass all of her subjects, and got a distinction in English, amongst other subjects! I like to build a good professional rapport with all my students and to allow them to really think critically whilst learning.
