About Me

I am a postgraduate student and researcher in Design and Interactive Technology - so I love all things art and tech! I am also a qualified TEFL teacher, having recently taught in China. I am passionate about English and helping learners of all levels to improve their confidence and fluency. As a student and researcher, I understand the importance of academic and business-appropriate English, both of which I am well-equipped to tutor in - think essays, papers, reports, presentations and more!

BSc (Hons) Architecture, MSc Design for Interaction (currently studying). I completed my degree in a Architecture in my home country of England and am currently pursuing an MSc in the Netherlands.

TEFL 120 hour certificate - I am a qualified TEFL teacher, having completed my training in Beijing, China. My primary experience is with students between 12-16 years old, but I am able to teach students of any age and ability.

I'm a native English speaker from the USA, living in Rotterdam. In my job as an engineer, I regularly help colleagues with their written and spoken English. I'm available to help you practice English on a regular basis on weeknights. I mainly work with students and professionals in technical fields who are interested in refining their English writing and speaking skills. I also speak fluent Dutch, as well as some Spanish and French, so I'm familiar with common English mistakes and understand what's causing them.

Examples of lessons:
- Reviewing written documents together, and identifying recurring errors (work emails, proposals, reports, etc.).
- General conversation practice, and presentation practice. I will listen, take notes, and provide feedback on pronunciation and grammar, while we discuss various topics.
- Practice speaking exercises in preparation for IELTS exams.
- Assistance with job applications (reviewing English CVs and cover letters).

I do not teach beginners courses in English, as I have a full-time job and this would require longer/more frequent lessons, and I do not have the training/background required to teach basic English.

This class is aimed at anyone looking to increase their English-speaking and listening skills. Depending on the student's interests, the focus will shift from vocabulary expansion and sentence structuring to "accent" reduction. My goal is to be a talking partner with whom you can engage in significant conversations about any topic you are interested in. Whether you are getting ready for a trip or a presentation or if you just want to make sure you do not forget what you already know, practice makes perfect and I want to try to help you achieve your goals.

I will pay attention whenever you are speaking and point out the mistakes (or "funny-sounding" phrases) in a polite manner after you finish speaking. That way I will not cut you off or discourage you from not being afraid of making mistakes (which we all make).

I am Firoozeh. I majored in English Language & Literature and have been teaching English for more than 10 years. Having classes in group and private sessions, with different range of ages gave me a lot of experience to know the needs of a language learner better and consequently come up with suitable methods for different requests.

Personally I believe learning a new language can be both fun and tricky at times and it would be more effective if it was handled methodologically by a language expert. it is said "the best method is no method" which means everyone has his own way and as a language teacher it would best answer when you saw your learner's requirements specifically. Some may find books better while the others have more fun with films and videos when learning. So I believe it is best to see your learners through the learning process for better adoption, also depending on the purpose of learning a language, the focus can shift from one skill to the others. as one's require might be to improve his vocabulary skill, strengthening listening can be essential for the other.

Besides all the techniques applied, I highly follow a friendly atmosphere to leave my learners with some enjoyable learning moments and fill them with so much enthusiasm.

Finally, I am a passionate language learner myself and I am currently making efforts to learn some other languages. This has broaden my point of view and aquatinted me with the difficulties involved in this path.

Most people need to revise the basics of language over and over again in order to master it, and having a good knowledge of how the language works at its core, i.e. its grammar, will help improve one's language skills drastically.
I think the best way of learning a language is by familiarizing yourself with it. I therefore like to conduct my lessons mainly in the target language. Moreover, I will tailor my lesson to the students' needs, a language has 4 core parts (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking), and each of us has different strong points and weaknesses when it comes to expressing ourselves in a second language.
