About Me

I started taking piano lessons myself when I was 9 years old. I enjoyed making music so much that I decided to turn my hobby into my profession. In 1986 I graduated from the conservatory in Utrecht and since then I have been giving private piano lessons to people of all ages with great pleasure. At the moment my youngest student is 5 years old and my oldest is 78! What appeals to me in music is that it is a combination of rational and emotional. First you learn to read notes, play rhythms and get to know the piano; what can be done and how do you manage that. That is the rational and technical part, you have to learn and practice a lot. Along the way you also learn a lot about yourself (!): You can go on, go for the long term and not just want immediate results. That sometimes requires quite a lot, but if you persist you can express yourself more and more through the music. I often hear myself say: music is always about communicating and making music is just like talking, just not with words and with your mouth but with notes and with your fingers. You can put your emotion and your soul into it more and more and that sometimes even goes beyond words. In addition, there is so much beautiful and interesting music in all styles, whether you like classical music or jazz or pop. With music in your life you are a rich person!
