About Me
I love teaching violin and music theory because it allows me to share my passion for music with a diverse range of students, from young beginners to adult learners. I enjoy the unique relationships I build with each student, watching them grow and achieve their musical goals. Every student is different, and I take pride in tailoring my teaching methods to suit their individual needs, ensuring lessons are engaging, effective, and fun. Having experienced anxiety when playing for others as a young musician, I now strive to create a relaxed, supportive environment where students feel comfortable and confident. I also teach practical techniques to help them manage performance anxiety, so they can enjoy sharing their music with others. It’s incredibly rewarding to help my students develop not just as musicians, but as confident performers
Education
I had the privilege of serving as the Concertmaster of the PHSG Orchestra, where I honed my leadership and collaborative skills while guiding the ensemble through a variety of challenging repertoires. I achieved my ABRSM Grade 8 in violin with distinction, a milestone that reflects my dedication to technical mastery and musical expression. Building on this foundation, I earned my Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree with distinction, deepening my knowledge in performance, theory, and pedagogy. These experiences have shaped my teaching philosophy, combining technical expertise with a passion for inspiring others to explore and enjoy the world of music
Experience / Qualifications
I have extensive performance experience, having gigged across South Africa with talented musicians, including collaborations with ensembles such as the Musos. My journey as a violinist has taken me to stages large and small, where I’ve explored a wide variety of musical genres and settings. I’ve also performed with multiple orchestras, gaining invaluable ensemble experience and further developing my ability to adapt to different musical contexts.
A highlight of my musical growth has been attending masterclasses with renowned violinists such as Max Baillie and Nicolas Dautricourt, as well as other exceptional musicians. These opportunities allowed me to refine my technique, deepen my musical interpretation, and gain insights from some of the world’s finest performers. These experiences continue to inspire and inform my teaching and playing
