Art classes provide a different form of knowledge and expression, engaging children’s senses, and challenging their creativity. I believe art should not only be practiced by talented kids, as it can open up new interests, as well as help them develop a set of tools to express themselves better.
The classes are shaped towards discovering the multifaceted aspects of art through experimenting with different crafts, mediums, and techniques beyond painting and drawing, as well as familiarizing the participant with various artists and art currents. The lessons are adapted according to the age, as well as interests and inclinations of the student. Considering my background in art and architecture, if there is interest in that, it is possible to dive into related topics, architectural drawing, and model-making exercises (suitable for almost any age).

Extra information

As a general rule, I am always interested in finding ways for the participants to not overspend on art supplies, as well as to be as environmentally conscious as possible with the choices. After booking a class, we can discuss what is already available for you, as well as what may need to be added. As I am active in two art academies, I can usually also provide some of the materials.

With activities ranging from painting, drawing, collaging, and even making sculptures out of found objects, learn and/or improve your art skills by pushing yourself a little, or a lot, with this class. If you are an absolute beginner, or a professional seeking to diversify your practice, these lessons will undoubtedly challenge you as an artist. Contrary to popular belief, realistic drawing will never be outdated, not because of some strange fixation in academic art, but because of its usefulness in a huge variety of tasks that are or are not related to the art field. Are you looking to improve your drawing skills or you don't even know where to start but you dream of an art career? Or perhaps you have entrance exams coming up for art school or architecture studies and you want to ensure you will pass?
This is an individual course design depending on your request and your starting level. Each course includes lessons filled with instruction information, practice time and homework assignment. You can begin with Level 1 and continue further or choose to start on a specific level.

Level 1 - This course is an absolute beginner level. You can hold a pencil and a brush but the starting is so stressful and confusing. You're scared of making a mistake, you don't know where to begin, you're getting lost when it comes to composition or shading whenever you start to draw. I GOT YOU! Those are very common feelings when you start to draw and it can be discouraging, give you a feeling of being stuck or just very dissatisfied with your art.

In this course I will guide you through basic traditional art techniques such as pencil sketching, pen and ink drawing, watercolor, and acrylic painting. We will be studying composition, forms, shapes, structure and texture of different objects such as fabric, furniture, animal fur, plants etc. I’ll show you how to achieve depth in your shading, how to understand light, and the effect of fragility of plants or hardship and reflection of metal. I’ll teach you observation, things to look for in the drawing, but most of all I'll give you tools for future independent learning that will save you tons of time while figuring on your own!
The key to success is your motivation and time you will dedicate to your homework practice.

Level 2 - This course is directed towards people who have some basic understanding of traditional art media techniques such as pencil sketching, pen and ink drawing, watercolor, and acrylic painting. Your art is currently your hobby, but you would like to change it into a career? Know more about art as a business model, get insights into career tips and opportunities. Or do you want to improve your sketching skills, learn to digitise your work, create digital illustrations in Procreate, or combine it all in your own unique way?

Level 3 - Advanced. It will focus on your specific desire as an artist and adjust to your skills and technique preferences. During the first introduction skills, I’ll provide some exercises to see how you work and together we will find the way we can work and improve.

My name is Shuchen — I’m a trained visual artist from China and France, now based in Delft.

Most short workshops focus on just one thing — plant, portrait or landscape. But real artists learn to see and understand the principles. So that you can find your own way to create.

I’m an art teacher with my own atelier, and I also teach at a local art centre. I run creative workshops for both kids and adults from all kinds of backgrounds. I love designing classes that mix hands-on technique with Art history.
I’m really enjoying guiding people discover their own expression in art.
My approach tend to be student-focused which also shaped by my international background. For me, it is important creating a welcoming space where people feel free and inspired to explore. Whether someone’s picking up a brush for the first time or coming back to art after years, I’m there to encourage them.

I teach digital painting with a focus on clarity, structure, and outcome. You’ll learn how to control digital brushes, build convincing lighting, use color intentionally, and create textures that add depth. We’ll move from the basics of composition to the challenges of designing characters, surreal environments, and expressive scenes.

By the end, you’ll produce portfolio-ready artworks and understand a professional workflow from sketch to finish. Each session combines hands-on exercises with discussion of artistic choices, so you strengthen both technical skill and creative judgment.

This course is for beginners and intermediate artists who want to go beyond tutorials and actually build a body of polished, original work.
