About Me

My name is Laurens and I am a passionate singing teacher specialized in pop and jazz. With a background as an experienced producer and multi-instrumentalist, I have had the privilege of working with several (semi)-professional artists in Belgium. My teaching approach is aimed at guiding both beginners who want to explore the world of music and advanced students who aspire to a professional career in music. From their attic studio in Brussels, Laurens, a self-made producer, singer/songsmith, gives life to a unique, cinematic and melancholic universe in which classical songwriting is combined with ambient electronica and soul.
After several warmly received songs by radio and press (StuBru, Radio Een, Willy, Focus Knack, Humo), a not unnoticed passage in Wim Lybaert's Colombus and an instrumental EP under the title 'As You Fall into the Sky', it is time for a new chapter for Low Hill. After fifteen years, the familiar Antwerp is exchanged for Brussels. Here Laurens can test out new material in unknown territory and since the beginning of 2023 he can also call himself 'artist-in-residence' of music center Volta.

I started making music as an adult. I always had that drive as a kid, but my family could not afford the lessons. Then life kicked in and there was always a good reason not to get into it. Until one day this old dream popped back up, and I stepped into a music store and got my first DJ controller. This completely changed my life, and a few years later I moved to Berlin to start a full course as a music production student. Fast forward a decade or so and I completely changed carreers and deep delved into sound engineering.

Making music is a place of joy and fulfillment. The only regret I have is to have kept myself from doing it for such a long time. DO NOT WAIT, there is a great deal of happiness on the other side.

I have a tried and true method that I tested on dozens of students, both in workshops and one on one sessions. It's designed to let you access the "having fun" parts in the least amount of time. This approach actually makes the learning curve much smoother, and lets you experiment on your own very quickly. Theory becomes more and more relevant as you go and perfect your skills, but I strongly believe that unlocking the joy potential early while building good habits is the key to any learning experience.
