About Me

My program is completely customized to the student's needs. Some would rather focus on learning the language by simulating real-life situations, while others would rather study grammar and understand each idiomatic structure.
Each student has a specific reason to learn a language - whether it is for business, a vacation, or just for fun.
My goal is to respect each student's needs and respond by providing them with the tools that better satisfy their requirements.
I can help if you need to sit for an exam or practice for a job interview, a business presentation, a trip to another country, or a general course to improve your level of English or Spanish.

General English, Spanish for foreigners and Japanese

16 £ /h

My name is Luis and I am a teacher of English, Japanese and Spanish for foreigners. I have more than 30 years of experience in teaching languages both in Japan and in Spain. I am a teacher of Spanish for foreigners (ELE certificate), and I also have the TESOL certification to teach English as a second language.

I have lived in the United States and Japan for more than 20 years. I have taught Spanish as a first and second language and English as a second language in companies, institutes, universities and currently online.

I have extensive experience in preparing for the DELE and SIELE Certificates of Spain and the Cambridge PET, KET and FIRST English exams, as well as the APTIS certificate from the British Council.

Each student has a specific reason for learning a language, whether for business, vacation, or just for fun. My goal is to respect the needs of each student, providing them with the tools that best meet their needs, motivation and interests.

But I think the most important thing in language learning is that it be enjoyed while you learn. Therefore, I try to make my classes fun and dynamic. I love talking and asking questions and I encourage my students to do the same, because ...

"The more you talk, the more you learn"

I'll see you in class.

The Spanish language is one of my biggest passions, and I feel fortunate as I have had the opportunity to turn my passion into a full-time job for the last 30 years. My lessons are designed to be effective but also fun. Students quickly acquire the confidence to use the new language and are encouraged to want to learn more.

I suggest that beginning students follow the classic curriculum for foreign language learning to build the groundwork for their studies. The objective is to cover basic grammar with many oral repetitions in practical situations. As students progress, they are ready for increasingly complex grammar.

University English Instructor| Started teaching English 9 years ago| Specializing in Conversational English.

My teaching approach is designed to develop communication skills above all. We watch or read materials, such as videos, articles, stories, poems, caricatures, then discuss them; we act out situations from everyday life; we take positions and practice debates. However, this doesn’t mean that we just practice speaking. I also make sure the learner is not running in circles. I’m here to ensure that they do not keep repeating the same mistakes or keep using the same expressions over and over in conversation.
In order to keep making progress, I take my student on a journey that involves:
• Improving their grammar.
• Fixing their pronunciation.
• Enriching their vocabulary by learning to use new words and common idioms.
By the end of this course, you should be able to speak English fluently and confidently.

PS: Because of my academic specialty, I also help with academic writing and creative writing.

Hello everyone,
My name is Phillip. I am an experienced, native bilingual (USA/Switzerland) English teacher. Today, I am pleased to guide you in your learning from my office located in the wild and inspiring setting of western Ireland.

With many years of experience as a private tutor, I work with students from all backgrounds. However, over time, I have developed an approach that is particularly appreciated by seniors and retirees. Why? Because I am convinced that learning a language at this stage of life should first and foremost be a shared pleasure, a window onto the world, and a wonderful way to keep the mind sharp and curious.
My approach: Trust and kindness above all

Many of us have somewhat rigid memories of school learning. With me, forget the stress of mistakes or tedious grammar. My primary goal is to restore your confidence. We progress at your pace, with a gentle, patient, and personalized teaching approach. Whether you're starting from scratch or simply want to refresh your old school memories, I adapt completely to your needs.

What we can explore together:
- Travel English: So that your next trip abroad is synonymous with serenity (getting around, ordering in restaurants, communicating with locals without apprehension).

-Maintaining family ties: Ideal if you have bilingual grandchildren or grandchildren living abroad and you want to share more with them.

-Conversation & Culture: Discuss current events, literature, history or life in Ireland, while enjoying my clear and easy-to-understand native accent.

-Brain gymnastics: Using English as a fun and stimulating tool to maintain memory and cognitive plasticity.

Why choose me?
As a dual American and Swiss national living in Ireland, I bring a unique cultural richness to your life. I have a mastery of all the nuances of the English language, but I also have a perfect understanding of French culture and structure.

Practical and technological aspects:

We'll work together via Zoom or Google Meet, very simple and reliable tools. If you're worried about the technology, don't be: I'll guide you step by step during our first session so you feel completely comfortable on screen. It's much simpler than it seems!

Join me for a friendly and engaging experience, blending Swiss rigor, American optimism, and the legendary warmth of Ireland. Let's transform your English practice into a truly enriching human adventure.
Nice to meet you,

Phillip

Each lesson is fully personalized according to the student's level, objectives, and needs. My method is based on a progressive and interactive approach, in order to develop both knowledge and self-confidence.

A typical lesson begins with a discussion to identify any difficulties encountered and review previous concepts. We then work on the essential points (grammar, vocabulary, reading and listening comprehension, written and oral expression) through tailored exercises and role-playing scenarios. At the end of the session, we review progress and set objectives for the next lesson.

As an engineer, I bring a rigorous, organized, and efficient work method. I favor a supportive, attentive, and results-oriented teaching approach. My goal is not only to help my students improve their grades but also to give them the tools and methods to become more independent in their learning.

My courses are aimed at middle and high school students, as well as adults wishing to learn English regardless of their level: refresher courses, academic support, preparation for tests, the brevet or the baccalaureate, as well as students wishing to strengthen their oral fluency or consolidate their English foundations.
