About Me

I have been teaching music for over 30 years and bring warmth, generosity, and kindness to every lesson. Originally from the U.S., I hold a Master’s degree in flute performance and a teaching credential in music. In addition to teaching, I am a professional flutist and have conducted both bands and orchestras. My passion is helping students grow as musicians, whether they are beginners, returning players, or preparing for performances and auditions.

Bass guitar lessons with a holistic, "all-round" character.

We will practice the lessons together and we will use your best songs for this. I believe that if you have deep emotional contact with a piece of music, the learning process will also become faster, cozier and smoother!

Our main themes:

- technique and overview of the bass (where?)
- general music theory, ear training (why?)
- creative improvisation and composition (what?)
- rhythm, tempo, phrasing and feeling (how?)

For adults and teenagers, lessons last 1 hour. For all levels from absolute beginner to conservatory level.

My name is Benjamin and I am 16 years old. I give guitar lessons and I really enjoy teaching people to play the guitar. I give you as a student the opportunity to choose songs yourself, but of course I also like to inspire my students. I enjoy learning everything from fingerstyle to hard rock. I myself am very much in the rock scene and love artists like The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. I would like it if you indicate where you want to grow yourself on the guitar. I teach acoustic and electric guitar, so fortunately you have complete freedom as a student. I teach my lessons physically and online (depends on what works better for you). The drumset is one of the most important and powerful instruments in a music ensemble. It does not only provide the rhythm and groove foundation for all the other instruments - it also defines the sound of the band, the character of the songs, the volume... just like an orchestra conductor.

In these lessons (which are of course personalized and open depending on the interests of the student) we will work beyond the physical/mechanical aspect of the drums (technique, coordination, etc) into the musical aspect, so we will spend some time listening and analyzing music together, working on ear training and music theory from a practical point of view.

If you’re interested in learning the flute and/ or gaining a new understanding of music through harmony, this lesson will provide that for you.

If you choose to, we’ll cover technique, improvisation, reading music, tone control and expression. We’ll also go over the fundamentals of harmony to give you the tools that will help with any other instrument. Your listening skills will also be developed. All entirely up to you, of course, we’ll only go as far as you wish.

During my lessons I would like to transmit to the student the necessary knowledge, passion, and dedication that music requires. During the harpsichord lessons I will introduce or deepen the skills of the pupils by teaching them the main playing techniques, the history of instrument, the beautiful and large repertoire that can be played on the instrument, and especially a structured and fun method which goal is to let the student become more and more independent. During my Theory/composition lessons I will focus on techniques, genres through a method that looks at historical sources. In my lessons I like to create a relaxed, serious, and productive environment that allows the student to focus, learn, and to reach their goals.

Eh?! What?!! Let's stop the blabla... Guitar is killing! Everyone loves it (that's probably why you're here) and I'm guessing you're like "How can I learn some of this crazy guitar stuff without selling one of my kidneys to some creepy guy on Youtube".

Well... I'm not offering you the rock 'n' roll lifestyle, sprinkled with angel dust and full of groupies languidly waiting for you backstage, but I can at least offer you an organized guitar lesson based on a comprehensive approach to the instrument, targeted to your musical aspirations... In other words: what YOU like! I sincerely believe that the most effective way to learn music is to delve into what you love and explore it with passion and dedication. We will always start from the songs you like, step by step, following your workflow. My goal is simply to give you the best tips and tricks so that you can enjoy playing the songs you love or, if you wish, organize your guitar practice in the most efficient way.

MOST IMPORTANT: I love to jam so be prepare to play some music :-).

Together we will tackle various topics, we can also focus on:
- Learn a song and be able to do it by yourself later.
- Explore different musical styles: Pop, Rock, Blues, Funk, Jazz...
- Guitar techniques using scales, triads and arpeggios.
- Understand harmony and how to build chords.

- Being able to provide a nice and steady groove by studying rhythmic figures.
- Immerse yourself in the beautiful world of improvisation.

About the lessons

Have you always dreamed of developing your musical talents? Are you an amateur singer or a beginner who would like to learn a few basics to better understand and control your voice? Then you've come to the right place! :)
As an option, I can also give introductory music theory lessons, to help you get to grips with the difficulties of musical language.
This course is aimed at all those who are just starting out or who want to perfect their singing skills, children or adults of all ages and backgrounds. /!\ Lessons will be given in English or French only, at my home in Amsterdam (Osdorp).

Course content

• Breathing exercises (to learn how to manage your breath and master good vocal support)
• Ear exercises (to develop in pitch accuracy and intonation)
• Vocalizing and voice exercises (adapted to the student's level) to warm up and develop a better voice technique
• Repertoire work on arias, songs or other musical pieces (classical or pop music, depending on the student's wishes) on which the student would like to progress
• (as a bonus, if needed) support or introduction to music theory

The musical goal and target level will be decided (under my guidance) on an individual basis in the beginning of our lessons, according to each student's wishes. The aim of this course is whatever suits you best: to improve your level in order to enter musical establishments, to progress in order to surpass yourself, or for the curiosity of discovering new things, or even just for the pleasure of making music!
