I teach from a hands-on and practical standpoint. Lessons will (ideally) be at my own commercial recording studio in East London, where you will learn about different kinds of microphones, recording techniques, phase correlation principles, signal flow methodology and basic studio construction. These lessons can also include recordings for demonstration purposes, which you are encouraged to take home for further learning and analysis.

These lessons would be ideal for someone looking for practical studio experience which can lead to a better chance at getting work in a commercial studio as an Engineering Assistant. They would also compliment someone taking a theoretical course in Audio Engineering and Production, or someone just interested in learning more about the function of recording studios.

About Me

I am an energetic and passionate individual who has over 10 years experience in the music industry, primarily working in large format analogue recording studios. Having been trained for over 2 years at the world renowned RAK studios and then going freelance for many years, I built and started my own recording studio in East London in 2020.

Having recently taken on a trainee assistant, my interest in tuition and passing on the knowledge I have amassed over the years has been piqued, and I am therefore keen to take on some students!

Education

I have a 2 year Sound Engineering Apprenticeship at RAK Studios when the government was funding apprenticeships, as well as a Diploma in Music Production and Business from PointBlank College, London.

Instrument Tuition:

Very flexible approach, I will teach based on individual needs. Beginners will learn the basics of the guitar, basic chords, basic scales etc. And advanced players will learn more complex chords, intricate scales, harmonies and improvisation.

If you just want to learn how to play your favourite songs, then I will teach you how to do that. If you want to learn about song writing, I will teach you that. Anything and everything.

Logic Pro X:

Equally as flexible and I will adhere to individual needs, I may need to start from the very basics even for proficient users. I have many years of experience and I graduated from Manchester MIDI School as a specialist in Logic Pro X. I will explain, demonstrate and test students about each subject per lesson.

We will look at MIDI, editing, recording, compression, EQ, Mastering, mixing, time stretching, FX, plugins, remixing, audio design, sound manipulation and so on.

My methods are generally adapted to each individual’s needs and objectives, however, they do not include classical music training approaches, such as sight reading or formal classical music training. Instead, my approach focuses on developing an intuitive understanding of music, through understanding elements such as intervalic structures, mathematical permutations, analogies derived from other disciplines etc. The ultimate goal of my approach is to allow the individual to form a way of thinking, which will allow she/he to compose, produce or play ANY type of music.
