I am calm and patient and help you to focus on foundational skills, including reading a simple pattern, identifying stitch types, joining new yarn, and finishing techniques. Focus can be basic stitches like chain stitch, single and double crochet, joining in new yarn, good tension and even edges.
Extra information
Happy to discuss what type of yarn and I can provide needles if required. I can teach at my location for follow up classes.

About Me
Crochet and ASL Instructor Biography

My name is Michelle, and creativity has always been woven into my life. I have been crocheting and exploring other crafts since I was young, finding joy, comfort, and self-expression in working with my hands. Crochet is more than a skill to me--it is a language of patience, creativity, and connection that I love sharing with others.

ASL (American Sign Language) is my first language, and I come from a proud Deaf family, with two Deaf parents and several Deaf relatives. Being part of the Deaf and Hearing Communities has shaped who I am and how I teach. I strive to create welcoming, inclusive spaces where communication is clear, learning is accessible, and everyone feels respected and supported.

I have a natural love for teaching and sharing my talents and skills. I am known for being kind, patient, and thoughtful, and I enjoy helping others discover their own rhythm. I believe learning should feel calm, encouraging, and enjoyable--especially when working with yarn and fiber, which can be both soothing and empowering.

I am Autistic and have Asperger's Syndrome, which influences my teaching in positive ways. I value structure, clarity, and gentle guidance, and I take care to meet learners where they are. This allows me to offer a steady, attentive, and compassionate approach to instruction.

I look forward to the opportunity to teach Crochet and ASL and share my creative skills in one or more classes. If you have any questions or would like to learn more, please feel free to reach out--I am always happy to connect and create together.

Teaching ASL to kids and adults
Weekly classes starting with level 1 all the way to level 9 I believe. Have to see if there is more after that. I'll check with my Mom about that as she will know more cause she teaches ASL herself for many years. My Mom is also deaf. But Levels 1-9 for now then see what happens after that. :)
If you're not a beginner and have taken classes before or know some ASL that's fine we can pick up where you left off and start on a higher level.
Eventually you will learn how to create and sign stories and other things.
We'll play games while I teach you Sign Language and have lots of fun with it.
Every week start off with refresher from the week before and if you have any questions or struggling with some of the signs before we start the new set of words.

Whether you've never touched a crochet hook before, or you're looking for new skills to add to your repertoire, this class can teach you the basic skills you need to work on your projects. Learn how to make stuffed animals, or gear up for winter!
My grandmother first taught me how to crochet when I was young, and I picked it up properly after high school. I've now been crocheting for eight years, and haven't needed to buy winter gear since. In the last couple years I've picked up making stuffed animals and amigurumi, good for decorations, kids, ornaments, and more.
Let me know what level of tutoring you want, so I can tailor your experience to your needs.
