Students will be guided through the exact methods used in established Savile Row tailoring houses, with a strong emphasis on hand craftsmanship, structure, and precision. The course focuses on building a garment using traditional canvassed construction, teaching students how each component works together to create balance, durability, and the distinctive Savile Row silhouette. Attention is given not only to technique, but also to developing an understanding of why each step is performed, allowing students to produce garments to a professional bespoke standard. This class is suitable for those with basic sewing knowledge as well as tailors looking to refine their making skills to true Savile Row bespoke standards. What Will Be Taught 1. Preparing & Cutting the Cloth Laying up and cutting cloth from a bespoke pattern Marking, notching, and balance points Cutting canvas, domette, and body structures 2. Internal Structure & Canvas Work Building and shaping the chest canvas Pad stitching techniques for lapels and chest Attaching canvas and developing coat shape 3. Jacket / Coat Body Construction Making the foreparts, side bodies, and back Seams, darts, and suppression techniques Shoulder construction and balance 4. Sleeves & Collars Sleeve making and setting by hand Understanding sleeve pitch and movement Collar construction and attachment 5. Baste & Forward Fittings Preparing garments for fitting Interpreting fitting corrections Implementing alterations accurately 6.
