Mathematics only becomes truly manageable when you know how to tackle a problem. I help you solve problems independently, so that you can master your subject, as well as all the mathematics that follows.

My approach

We work through the thinking process together, so you discover the solution yourself. No ready-made answers, but the right questions and hints at the right time. This way, you build the skills and confidence step by step to tackle mathematics independently. Soon, mathematics becomes much less difficult and intimidating, and after a while, even fun!

The power of private lessons is more time and more personalization: your questions, your pace, focus on what you need. A session feels like a collaboration. Thinking out loud, trying something out, making a mistake and starting over: it is all part of the process.

My method is based on insights from learning psychology, in particular the model of cognitive apprenticeship (Collins, Brown & Newman, 1989). The idea is simple: first, I make visible how a mathematician thinks, and then I pass that thought process on to you step by step.

How a lesson proceeds

A standard lesson lasts two hours. True understanding takes time, and two hours gives us the space to thoroughly explore problems. One-hour lessons are also possible upon request.

Before the lesson, send me the questions and exercises you are stuck on. I will prepare them so we can get started right away.

During the lesson, we work through your material together: exercises, theory, and proofs. You think, I provide guidance.

After the lesson, you will receive a concise summary and a few questions to work on yourself.

About me

I am studying mathematics at KU Leuven and previously obtained a bachelor's degree in psychology. I offer support in probability and statistics, (linear) algebra and analysis at the university level, and in all secondary education mathematics. Outside of mathematics, I enjoy bouldering, classical piano, and studying Japanese. I also really love being in nature.

We work through the thinking process together, and with the right hints and nudges, you will be the one finding the answers! This gives you the tools to do mathematics on your own. As you gain confidence, the subject gets a lot less difficult and intimidating. It will even become fun!

Private tutoring lets me build everything around you: your questions, your pace, your sticking points. Our sessions are a collaboration, two people figuring out the mathematics together, where thinking out loud and trying out ideas is encouraged.

A standard session

Sessions last 2 hours by default. Real understanding takes time to build, and a two-hour block gives us room to work through problems in depth. One-hour sessions are possible on request.

Before: you send me the specific questions and problems you've run into. I prepare them in advance, so our time goes to working on them rather than me reading them for the first time.

During: we work through your material together, with you doing the thinking and guiding me. This can be exercises, theory, proofs, etc.

After: you get a written recap of the session plus a few guiding questions to keep you moving in your own study.

I'm a mathematics student at KU Leuven, and I previously completed a bachelor's degree in psychology. I tutor probability and statistics, (linear) algebra and calculus/analysis at university level and any secondary school mathematics. Outside of math, I boulder, play classical piano and study Japanese. I also love spending time in nature.
